Important For Seed Swappers!!!
Do NOT connect with Facebook - When a user joins from Facebook, they are identified with their Facebook user ID and their real name. As of right now this doesn't work with our private message system. We're hoping in the future to make changes to our PM system so we can message users that registered via Facebook. In the meanwhile, you can post on a Facebook user's bulletin board and if they have verified their email addresses, they will receive the message via email. So in other words if you plan on doing a lot of seed swapping do not register through Facebook. We currently have no way to pm Facebook users.
Seed Swap FAQ
How many seeds make a good trade?
Be specific of how many seeds you have to trade. Generally a good trade consists of at least 25 seeds. Good communication between members is key to have a good swap.
What if it is old seed?
Properly stored seed may be viable for many years, but every swapper should be upfront with those they are trading with. If the seed is old, please be honest. Let members decide if they are still interested in the swap. Larger amounts of seed may need to be offered because of potential lower germination rates.
What information should I include with the seed?
Name of the plant.
Growing information.
Whether the plant is an annual, biennial or, perennial.
The date when the seed was collected.
Of course not everyone will take the time to do this but I know we all wish they would.
What should I package the seed in?
Recycle old seed packets, buy small envelopes (coin envelopes), use craft baggies, or make your own envelopes using our seed envelope templates.
How should I mail the seed?
Seeds packets should be protected with soft padding. Padded Envelopes, folded paper towel or bubble wrap will help protect the seeds from postal mail rollers. If you send out multiple packets tape the packets down to avoid shifting before you wrap the seeds with padding.
Does BlossomSwap.com have rules pertaining to their seed swap?
Why yes, we do.
Swapping Guidelines
- When you no longer have the variety of seed to swap please edit your list to reflect the changes.
- Do not offer to pay for seeds or plants, nor offer them for sale. Swapping for pay is not permitted.
- Represent your list items to the best of your knowledge. If you have a special variety of heirloom beans add it to that section for that particular bean. If it isn't listed, add a new item to the category.
- Invite potential swappers to communicate with you through private message (accessible on your profile page). This is only available to those who are registered users.
- Trading of patented material is unlawful and is strictly forbidden. Most hybrid varieties are patented, and it is unlawful to propagate them, either by seeds or asexual means, such as cuttings.
- BlossomSwap.com encourages local trades if you have plants to share as every state has different regulations. It is up to the users involved to determine what is legal and what is not.
- All swapping is done at users' discretion. BlossomSwap.com has no control or responsibility over swaps arranged here. Swaps are not endorsed by BlossomSwap.com: "Let the swappers beware!" should be your motto if you choose to participate. Use common sense and good judgment when choosing who you swap with.
