Shade Plants

Got two huge pine trees with nothing but ugly empty dirt under them. Any suggestions for shade plants (hopefully with flowers) that would work?

If your pines are "limbed up a bit" so they can get some side lighting underneath, I guess some hostas will grow well under pines, and also other flower that prefer the acid soil created by the pine needles. I'm sure others can give you a better list probably, since I've not done tons of shade gardening.

I'm pretty sure periwinkle (vinca) will grow there - it's growing under my neighbors shady forested backyard and spreads like crazy.

Bleeding Heart (Dicentra)
Coral Bells (Heuchera)
and Bugleweed (Ajuga)
all bloom well for me in heavy shade.... you might also try Dutchman's Breeches, the Hostas (of course), and Lily of the Valley.
Most bluebells handle shade well, and there are even some poppies, like Wood Poppy, and Menconopsis varieties that like shady nooks surprisingly well.

the Hostas are really the only summer bloomers I've mentioned so far... I have a problem with gaps in my shade bloom times right now myself... Blackberry lilly is supposed to be good and if you do limb up the pines .... personally I wouldn't but if you do.... depending on how much diffuse light you end up with regular daylilies will generally tolerate some shade (they don't prefer it but they adjust okay)

Don't underestimate the variety of foliage, especially ferns, available for shade either... for example: Japanese Painted Fern adds striking color without any bloom

I mostly do shade garden bed in my backyard. Rowan mentioned a few plants, but once you start reading up on shade gardens, there are many plants that do well. If you limb up your pine trees to allow more filtered sunlight in, you can grow:
Foxgloves
Monkhood
Deadnettle (lamium)
Impatiens
Elephant Ears bulbs
Caladium bulbs
Helleborus (Spring blooming)
Black Cohosh
Coral Bells
Assorted hosts
Lungwort
Bergenia
Wild Ginger
Azaleas
Mountain Laurels
Japanese Anemone
Columbines
I can go on, but this would be a long post.
