The Stachys 'Lamb's Ear', Stachys byzantina, is known for its soft, fuzzy, silvery green foliage. With spikes of purplish pink small flowers, it has a wonderful effect on any garden. 'Lamb's Ear' has a plant height of 8" and a spread of 12-24" and blooms in mid-summer. (Lamb's Ear is not known for its flowering, but however its foliage.)It may not look extremely good in the summer time, but will recover in the fall. 'Lamb's Ear' needs to be planted in full sun in a well-drained area. It is useful in the border or as a ground cover. It will add texture and color in rock gardens and looks wonderful with Veronica 'Goodness Grows', Tradescantia 'Concord Grape' or other purple blooming perennials.

Lamb's ears, with their soft, velvety touch and cool minty green color tends to be a great attraction for children. This is one plant that I know I can show off to kids that come over, and they'll want to see it, even if there aren't any flowers yet.
I grow LE's for the foliage, but the spikey little pink flowers are nice too, though you should cut them back quickly as they expire, or else the plant gets leggy and bare.
My Lamb's Ears prefer to be a little on the dry side, but they have thrived well in rainy summers. I simply give them a little bit of extra pruning to allow good air circulation through the plant. I like this plant, because it is able to look good right through to late fall.

This lovely soft silver grey plant is very tactile being as soft as velvet. The color of the leaves contrast beautifully against the darker greens and bright blossom of nearby flowers
I've heard that they were once used in/as bandages but I can't remember were I heard it.

I can't remember a time that I did not have lamb's ear in my garden. My Mom had it and I loved it even as a child. It is a really good plant for helping introduce small children to the flower garden. Pick a leaf a your little one will pet it for hours, better yet help your child start their own garden with animal named plants like bee balm, ponytail grass, and lamb's ear.
I keep this plant close to the front of my garden, when it blooms the flower spikes get a bit tall for the front but I hate not to see the velvety leaves. It does take a bit of work to keep it from getting messy after it blooms but the dying leaves are easy to pull away.

I love this plant, and think I might dig up all the grass and let it take over the yard. At least i'll get some bee's. Very nice in a border or even as a central sight for a bed.
