Miniature Roses Indoors

Help! I bought two mini rose bushes on sale at the grocery store about 2 weeks ago, and when I bought them, they were beautiful. Now, they've lost most of their leaves and one of them is brittle and going black from the tops down. I've been keeping them well watered and well lit, so I don't' know why this has happened!
No sign of disease, either, btw. Any tips, especially for the one that's going black? I think the other one is alright, might just be going dormant for a bit. It's got little green buds on the stems, so that's good....right? Bah. I don't know anything about roses. |

| They aren't in a hot window are they?? This time of the year as the sun's getting stronger it pays to see how hot the pots are getting in a sunny window. I don't think the roses like warm roots, even if they're getting plenty of water. Could it be too warm in your house? I think they should tolerate 70 and above, but cooler might be better. So sorry about your loss, but they are sensitive to "over watering" as well, and they aren't in those foil covers are they?? It's too easy to over water with the foil covers unless they've got holes , in which case they'd be leaking all over the place. I can't think of anything else, but maybe it's just the readjustment to your house and growing conditions. Those greenhouse grown plants can be mighty persnickety sometimes with any kind of change in their environment. |

| I've never had luck growing mini roses indoors. To keep a mini indoors at my house is to kill it. Mine stay outside all year long in terracotta pots. But I agree with MrSeedy, if you can keep them in a cool part of the house that would be ideal, and never in those pretty foil covers. |

| I've never had any luck either but I have found if I put them outside they usually perk up again |

| I always get my mini roses this time of year at the grocery store. I immediately repot in a good potting soil and put them in a sunny window.
They usually have about 4 plants in a pot. Try to untangle a few roots without too much damage so they will spread out into the new soil. Usually the soil is so wet I do not add any more water for a week or two. They drown them in the store. If you leave them in that bog they will rot and die. They should dry out some.
If it is a cool sunny day I take them outside for a few hours. |
