Default dogwood I almost killed

Remember the day I told you about running over the dogwood baby with the lawnmower, and Greg wouldn't let me live it down .... called me a tree killer? ...

Well, I'm happy to report that she is alive, full of leaves, and has been moved to a new spot in the center of the big bed....and thriving! ...and no ... it's not a plastic one that I've put in as a decoy.

Hi Natalie. Yep, dogwoods are pretty forgiving. It's hard to kill one.

Yea,I recall you posting about that event Natalie! Glad to read where things are going better with it again. ( I'm sure you are too ) Dogwoods are almost like a Timex watch - 'They take a beating and still they keep on ticking' ( most of the time that is )
Good Luck!!

That's funny I can't keep dogwoods alive in this yard. Glad to hear that yours is thriving though.

OMG Boo! I didn't think they could be killed. I have one that I think I've had forever and when it gets less foliage on the lower half I hack it right back and it comes away again as good as new. Maybe you're too kind to yours.

Natalie, I'm glad to hear yours made it. My son gave my azalea bush a haircut with the snowblower making dog trails and it's sprouting. I thought it was a gonner too.

It's good to hear that they can survive a certain amount of trauma because last year I chipped a piece of the bark from my new dogwood tree with the lawnmower. Later in the summer the deer nibbled the bark down all one side of the tree so I put a good wire barrier around it.

Guess what? It's starting to flower! I'm so excited, I thought it would have to be planted a lot longer before it flowered.

Sis had a dogwood that we thought was dead. We(I)cut it all the way back last fall and now this year I'm pruning it to shape.I've never liked to grow them because they can be labor intensive when they're not healthy. It seems like the new varieties don't do as well as the old wild ones our grandmothers used to dig up in the woods.
