I'm not sure what it is but it's definitely not skunk cabbage. The skunk cabbage leaves look way different, they look like very large, individual swiss chard leaves with a heavy vein down the middle. They also only grow in very wet places like bogs and small creeks. There are tons of them growing right now in the moist areas around here.

False Hellebore I dont know about where you all live, but I sent an email with pic to the local cooperative extension and they emailed me back first thing this morning with ID and plant info. This is a great resourse to know about. Boo,,,I have been living next to my perfect plant book. I keep it on the front porch where I spend most of my relaxing time and I go through that book numerous times a day. Has been a huge help to me. I think of you every time I open the cover This is the year my garden is going to POP!! |
