It's been my moms for years. It's made a spider shoot for the first time ever. EVER! But the plant just seems... pitiful. I moved it out of the window... heres a pic. Any diagnoses?
I also cut a lot of leaves off of it that were reallly droopy before I took the photo. (the room is red, but the camera made it look pink) |

Maybe, just maybe, it's producing babies in the same way that lemon trees
display a whole treeful of fruit before they die? I hope not, and I hope at the very least you can get the spiderling to grow into a replacement. I'm wondering, though, if you need a slightly bigger pot with some renewed soil, nicely aerated, in it? Spider Plant - HGIC @ Clemson University

Thanks guys. It's been pitiful like this forever. It was never a nice plant lol. I'll see if I can get a non terracotta pot to put it in.
And no I don't have any fertilizer :O |

I'm with everybody else and they love water and feeding and light. It looks dry to me, right now. They also like to be misted. Of course, like all plants a good talking to will do wonders.
GB has that right!

Hi Jake....definately repot, put it in a plastic pot with good fresh soil, and lightly feed it ...keep it out of direct sunlight, give it something indirect...and wait to see how it does. I think you'll be able to save it ... it has life to it yet, and it WANTS to live ... just make sure it gets enough water and some frsh soil, and then some time.

I agree with everyone else.Repot the poor thing, maybe into a hanging pot.I grow mine outside.I hang them in the branches of the small trees.I have a few growing in almost all of my gardens(I keep them in reserve for gifts or when one of the others "bite the dust".)I protect the ones in baskets but, never worry about the ones growing in the ground. We don't freeze hard enough around here to deep them from coming back each spring. This year I've discovered a few of the plantlets growing in the crook of a very old Oak tree in the front yard.I have no clue as to how it got there-it just appeared.Anyway I digress, after repotting the plant, take it outside for the season.I think you will be pleasantly surprised.I always have a terrible time trying to grow them indoors but,as soon as I get them outside under the trees they grow like gangbusters.
