I'm sort of sorry to say, I got one for Chistmas a while back , but having no counter space, and they are a good sized appliance, I made my mom take it back for a refund. I didn't even have storage space for one , when not in use , so I just couldn't keep it. Right about now , some good home made bread sounds mighty inviting, but I can still do that from scratch, though getting dough to rise in the winter can be a bit tricky with the chilly temperatures, unless you put it in a warmish oven to rise. I hope you enjoy many good loaves of bread in the years to come from your "breadmaker".

 I still make mine the good old fashioned way, mixing by hand. I have an Oster kitchen center and a Kitchen Aid appliance, but I can always tell how the bread will turn out if I can feel it with my hands. Sounds crazy I know, but even my sugar cookies I mix by hand. Let us know how it turns out Connie.

I'm told they make an excellent pizza base too. I'm being nagged.

Are you trying to say that DW wants one? It would make her a nice Christmas gift.So far it's reaaly easy, add the ingredients and turn it on. It does all the rest. Mine is still baking. Should be done in about 30 min. Connie

Connie we use our breadmaker 2 or 3 times a week. My DH even uses it to make the dough for cheese sticks - they're much better than the ones from the grocery store.

i had mine for years and never liked the way it baked in the bread maker itself.....a funny shaped loaf....well duh........... i started taking it out after it mixed and let it second rise in the bread pans or shaped rolls and baked it in the regular oven.. it works out great! sometimes the brain works ^_^ ^_^

OK, it's 23rd December and I only have DW's Christmas present to get. It's going to be a bread maker.

I think that's a great idea Rich. Our first loaf fell, but was still very tasty. We thinks it's cause we didn't drain the zucchini well enough. Made pizza dough in it last night and it was yummy.Enjoy! Connie

Well I bought it, but I'm not quite sure what I've bought.

Does this mean anything to anyone.

Bakes 750g, 1kg and 2.5kg/ 1.65lb, 2.2lb and 2.75lb loaves.

I know 1kg = 2.2 lbs so the first 2 figures look OK, but 2.5kg is more than 5lbs not two and threequarters. That's some loaf. I reckon Jesus must have had one of these things.

Leave it to the athiest to reference Jesus in a conversation about breadmakers!

I think bread from scratch, hand made, is a more organic process -- kneeding the dough yourself, feeling the texture, shaping the loaves, watching them rise, and then, of course, thunking them to hear that certian sound that a warm, good-smelling, loaf makes when it's perfectly done
......I've never had a breadmaker and I don't think I would bother (I've never seen the point of mixes for cakes and cookies why would I see the point of mixes for bread).... I'm a just bit anti-appliance anyway -- I don't have a dishwasher, I use hand-cranked beaters not electric, the point of "food processors" eludes me.... Just sharing, in case you didn't already think I was a nut :D

Ummmm, Mary, if you're giving out your DH's cheese sticks recipe........ ummmm.... can I plead for it?? We had a local bakery that used to make them. But they changed owners and don't make them anymore. I tried a recipe - but failed miserably!

Your DH is gonna love her gift, Rich! She's a lucky lady--- AND methinks that you're one lucky guy too! :P

Rowan--I'm with you on the making bread by hand! ;) I made all of our bread when the kids were small and I wasn't working outside the home yet! ;) I just love the feel of the dough and the whole process involved in making it with my own hands! :D I've had some very tasty bread out of machines, though! :D
