Looked at the thermometer outside on my porch and it said 10 below at 7 am this morning. I'm almost afraid to go check my greenhouse. Sure hope that heater didnt quit. This seems very early for those temps. Usually they arrive in the middle of January.    I'm thankful for the heavy snow cover we have now as it sure protects many of the perennials.

I don't think we've hit the single digits yet this year , but it's possible a couple of our colder mornings did get that cold. Our below zero readings can arrive by new years eve some years, but hopefully they're be few and far between this winter, with the high heating bills etc. and a small chance my pipes could freeze up. Years ago after some remodling to the outside of my house, the darn crawl space was left somewhat open to outside air and of course with the pipes under there that was enough to cause the pipes to freeze several times through the course of that winter. Luckily none of the pipes burst , but it was very inconvenient to say the least, and we had to just wait for several days for some warmer outdoor readings for the pipes to thaw out. Heaven forbid I get more frozen pipes with all the other house problems lately, and with my luck the pipes might burst and then need repairs , though it's not happened "YET"!!

What's that in Fahrenheit Kiwi?? About 80, I'd guess and it's just plain mean to "rub it in" as we say here in the States!! I guess though, even when it's that temperature here in about five months, even in "your" fall you'll still be near 20 most likely for highs!! Just not fair!!! Not sure what your winter highs are like, but if you're on the north island it's probably at least 10C or higher??

I guess it all depends where in the North Island really. Middle of the island is the Desert Road which is on/off closed due to heavy snowing in winter.
But the funny thing is, us here in the South Island get hit hard by snow storms and other bad weather but when it reaches the North Island, its always on the news about had bad the weather is!
On bad days for us, we can get frosts down to -10C, but we don't get the snow storms with the air chill factor like you do in the States. Here, it just snows.
