A female and the male comes each day to the deck. If there isn't any suet etc for them they usually hang around in this tree. Its not far away but they are rather small when 15 feet or so away. Anyway this is the little lady waiting for me to get the food out.

What a cutie, and I do believe ater looking at several of your excellent pictures, that from now on I should be able to tell our downies from the "hairies" when I see them , should I be able to see them clearly. Seems my eyes are msibehaving badly the past few months and I'm not seeing anything clearly these days. That could account for all those out-of-focus photos I've been taking??

I like the way she uses her tail for leverage.

I shouldn't say this , though I'm in general more interested in the aesthetic aspects of having birds around, I guess having too many woodpeckers of any type can be a problem for your house, with some types of woodpeckers actually pecking away at soffets, and other wooden parts of your home etc. I guess in some areas of the country they do considerable damage to homes, but in sort of my "wicked" fashion, since I hate the basketball post and hoop sticking out of my back lawn, which my brother installed years ago, I had to chuckle and feel encouraged that after a few years and having a bit of rot set in to the wood back board of the net, I'd often see some little downies or harries pecking eagerly away at the backboard and rapidly demolishing it. Must have been hundreds of holes after a while, ha ha!!! I'd think "Keep up the good work , woodpeckers"!! I hate sharing my lawn with a basketball hoop!!!

Thanks for all the posts. The pair are here each day and they stay the year round.
