Try a cup of peppermint tea in the evening - makes me sleep like a baby. It's good for you too.

I have had a lot of trouble sleeping lately. Something that has proved very efficient over the years (I have had problems since I was 15 years old and I am 32) is valerian, you can take is as an infusion or maybe you can find some pills. The advantage is that it is completely natural. However it doesn't work on the first night, you have to keep on taking it for a few days and then you'll notice that you are much calmer and so much more disposed to sleeping quietly.

Thank God I have never had trouble sleeping but my DD has had a lot of problems. She finally went to the DR. and, with tests, found out she has sleep Apnia (sp). She has to sleep with a special oxigen mask until she sees a specialist. I guess there are different things that can cause it.

I have problems sleeping all the way through the night, except if there is a thunderstorm, then I sleep like a baby. But now my cat has taken to walking and laying on me early in the morning. So that doesn't help either.

well that explains the dreams about giant clowns who kidnap children out of second story windows. I generally sleep like crap. My dogs seem to be on this schedule were they wake me up around 4am to go outside and if I ignore them they leave me presents on the floor so I get up and let them out. rather wake up early than step in it in the morning  but during a full moon few days before and after I have very vivid strange dreams

I don't know what the full moon has to do with it but I haven't slept worth a darn in years. Get up several times every night with leg cramps that you just gotta walk off. Even the drugs the Doc gave me don't help.

bj, I don't know if this will help but I was getting BAD cramp in my legs at night, I mentioned it to my DR and he said to first try drinking more water and if that didn't help he would prescibe some meds. I couldn't believe it but darned if it didn't work! So simple.

After thinking about it , I guess a full moon makes my sleep even more restless than most nights, but that isn't hard. Seems I don't even recall the last time I woke feeling rested in the morning and if it's not one thing disturbing my sleep it's another , or sometimes even two of three things. I was sleeping a bit later as the season was changing , but the second the darn time changed, I'm now getting an hour less sleep every night and waking up at the same time by my body clock but getting to sleep an hour later. Make any sense, but those time changes always mess with my sleep. Then there's all those aches and pains from the day, poor breathing in my sleep, urinary tract problems (sort of) etc. etc. Is there anything else that can screw up my sleep? I guess I shouldn't ask and I already know the answer to that , when anything is troubling me on top of the physical ailments. Oh well, I wish everyone a good night's sleep every night, as that's a blessing that can't be underestimated!!!

Thanks mla2ofus. I already drink about 2 gallons of water a day. Doc put me on Flexaril and even that doesn't help much. And I've tried potassium supplements to no avail.

bj, I don't know what is concidered the "right amount" of water as my Aunt was rushed to the hospital in pretty bad shape because she was drinking TOO much water! She drank so much (2 to 2 1/2 gal. a day) that she was washing the salts etc. , out of her system. She is 75 though and not very active so that was way to much for her.

That's EXACTLY what happened to my SIL when she toured Egypt last year. She was feeling sicker and sicker and was drinking more and more water thinking that the heat was the problem. She ended up in the hospital on an intravenous drip to replace the sodium and minerals in her system.
Thankfully she had good traveller's medical insurance or it would have been very costly.

Speaking of water?? I've tried cutting down on any late liquid refeshments in hopes of waking less frequently through the night to make those "pit stops" , but alas I'm always thristy and it's hard to cut back on the liquids. Darn, it hurts to get old and suffer all those things, that seem to come with a weaker bladder etc. Sorry for the somewhat "touchy" subject, but it a fact of life. Time to get my 'sugar' checked as well , I guess!!
