Since I'm just starting to collect houseplants, I thought I'd share this pix with everyone. I'm trying to keep these until spring, them plant them with other plants in some planters. These babies are huge and I really like the live greenery in the house. Connie

Yes, they do look good. I have so many house plants and I have not brought them all in yet. I love to see something growing inside.
We have been having wonderful Spring temps. I am letting them get as much outside as I can squeeze in. :D

Decompost, thanks for the compliment. ^_^ I put the trim on the shade. I ran out and had to order more. :( Somehow I lost the rest of the trim when I moved. :( :( :( Now I can't finish it or do the matching lamp. Maybe someday I'll find it, but I haven't yet :( :( Connie

I"ve noticed an assisted care facility just a block from my mom's house has lots of the "spikes" (Cordyline) and quite large ones in all their raised planter beds. If I had room for more plants I'd be much tempted to ask the "manager" there, if I could save them and take them home for the winter. It seems such a waste that such nice plants will be dead after the first hard freeze here, which most likely won't be far in the future here. My mom had a good sized one for years, that had developed a nice "trunk" until she finally decided not to bother keeping it any longer.

Connie, that one looks so nice.
I brought my spike indoors too and I noticed some of the leaves have brown tips. Too much water? Not enough? <_<

Boo, mine have brown tips also, you just can't see them in the photo. I wondered myself if it was a water problem. Connie

I think the brown tips are just their way of saying , "my it's getting cold for me" though I've seen some pictures of some very large ones growing outdoors in Cornwall and Ireland, where they may have the odd snow , or freezing temperature during the winter.

Thanks MrSeedy. I wonder if my basement will be too cold. Maybe I'll move them from the shelf by the outside wall. Its around 60 but nights might get colder.

I think they're quite adaptable to cool highs once winter comes, considering they come from some places that are a bit cool in the winter originally!!

Nice spikes. I gave mine away when I started downsizing a few months ago. I've always said that brown tips are usually a sign of inconsistant watering which is normal for houseplants. Afterall, we water them when they become dry, which makes them too wet, then they go into a period where they are just right and then go into a dry period. So, if you ask me, I don't think that there is any help for it. I've known only a few people whose plants don't get brown tips. I know that there are other reasons for brown tips, but, if the plant is otherwise healthy, well, what can we do? Oh,I also like the lampshade-hope you find the rest of your trim.

I like them both, plant and lamp shade. Great decor.
