Does anyone know what this shrub is?? I had to stop the car and get out to take a pic. It's in my neighbourhood. Looks like a Smoke Tree, but the colour seems different. <_<

Yep, smoke bush, Cotinus. There are a number of colour variations.
That's a really nice one.

Ooo That's beautiful! Now I'm wondering if I bought the right kind. The place I went to had a few kinds.
Thats a beauty! If you have the space, get a cutting for yourself.

Agree with Rich and boo about this! I had one in my yard for a few years, unfortunally it got covered with ice ( bad ) and died!
Thats a pretty one!

I had a Smoke tree at one time too, but something happened to it, so we chopped it down. I cried my eyes out. Now, the old roots are sending up another little tree.
Hmmmm boo, I wonder how I can get a cutting from that one!?!?! I'd have to jump over the ditch and saunter onto their yard to snip one!
This site has me going now. I have a pair of small scissors in my purse now. I even snipped a piece of a plant from the place that I work. Today, while in town, I saw some plants in a planter outside of a shop.. and I snuck over to check out if there were any seed pods that I may have wanted.

Well Dandy - that's what happens when you hang around with the wrong sort of people, you start behaving just like they do.
That is just a gorgeous bush though.

Every year I come home from holiday with a mixed bag of seeds, and never have a clue what they all are.
This year I got organised and put them in separate mini-envelopes (school dinner money envelopes).
But I also dug up a couple of 6 inch high mimosas with a knife I borrowed from the cabin. ^_^

Can you believe, it's the spent flower stems after the petals are gone that give the smoke tree or smoke bush it's beautiful "smoke" appearance, and yet some folks don't like the spent flower stalks , so they cut them off . Whats the point , I'd say, since it's those flower stems that add so much beauty? Oh well, but that's one advantage to having your own yard and gardens , since you can cut them off if you wish!! They do have beautiful fall foliage as well!!

yeah, I love steal...erm...borrowing seeds, seed pots and cuttings everywhere and so do other peeps from my garden. Thats why I need flox now. Somehow the sparse pots I had (close to my small gardenwall) suddenly disappeared....
wonderful shrub, Dandy. I would have borrowed a piece of that.....sure thing!

I've considered wearing my Health Department ID badge and telling folks I'm from the environmental health dept. and that I need to take cuttings of certain plants to check for a rare virus or fungus or whatever that may be invading Orange County!! ^_^ Think they'd buy it?!!

when I walk the dog, I love going down back alleys, always pack a bag, just in case there's a wonderful plant hanging in the alley.
I asked one lady, who had a gorgeous dahlia, if I could trade or get a tuber in the fall, she said no, she never gives anything away. can you imagine?
