Sometimes, I'd look at my kids and wish,
That I too could run on tiny feet,
That I too could grow with the whish
Which came from butterflies' wings.
Sometimes, I'd look at my kids and wish,
That other things didn't come first
In this everyday world that surrounds us.
So, while I swept and washed and cleaned,
And wished my work were other things,
And while I watched and hoped and planned,
My oldest son became a man.
The younger two did play and grow,
Today, I watched the last one go.
So now I'm sure I'll see the rest'
The gloried dreams that time does test.
Although tonight when my head does rest'
I know in my heart I have done my best.
But, it sure is quiet in this empty nest.
