We had our last rain when Katrina's feeder bands came through.
And its been in the high 90's every day. Watering sometime twice a day. Today
it was 80 with a heat index of 86 when I got up about 6 am. Even with the rain.
With Rita we got a couple of showers from her feeder bands, and lots of wind yesterday. Today I think we are trying to make up for it. Of course a lot of it will just run off, and not soak in.
We needed it, but not all at one time.
I do pray for the hurricane victims, and hope they can re-build. The heat there has been terrific since Rita.

I hope you do keep "high and dry" and your gardens as well. I doubt they need more rain about now?? What kind of drainage do you have?? I guess some spots in Florida have a layer of coral rock not far under the topsoil and those can be difficult for drainage, or just the opposite??

It wasn't as bad as they made it sound! There was some water standing in the low-lying areas however. I just feel sorry for all of us along the Coast that still don't have roofs fixed since the hurricanes. Ours are covered with tarps, and they are not on the house just the screen room and the sheds and one rental house that is empty now. There is just not enough roofers to do all the houses, and we haven't pushed it because, our need is not as great as some of the others.
Thanks for the thoughts......
Pray for us today--DH has a needle biopsy on his adrenal glands.

So sorry about the "worry" for your DH, but I pray it works out ok!! I've heard that repairs are slow down there, but I'd expected that maybe some contractors might have sent some special "temporary" crews down there. Oh well, I guess it's hard to move to a location on just a short term basis , even for the much needed work that needs to be done?? I guess those "gypsy" roofers and contractors, might not be the kind of folks you'd trust doing those major repairs, as they don't have to stick around to face any citicism or suits they might incur!!

Mr. Seedy, we do have extra folk from out-of-town, but there was just
so many places damaged here that it has been slow. There was also a shortage of supples for a long time. Not enough roofing, etc. There were some 'bootleg' roofs done that leaked the next rain! Ivan was bad, but Katrina and Rita were so much worse there is no comparison. I hate to complain when so many in Mississippi and Alabama lost so much during the last 2 storms. Not to mention what is going on in Texas and Louisiana. It just bothers me that MS and Ala. were overshadowed by N. O. and are not getting the supplies they need. The help we have sent from our church went to Alabama, and we know folks in Mississippi and sent money to their churches to help those areas. If you do not see the damage for yourself, it is hard to imagine how widespread it is. And the main mentions of Mississippi has been on the casinos that were ruined. There has been a lot of coverage on Katrina, but the coverage last year of the Florida hurricanes, did not really show all the damage. There are still piles of limbs, and other debris that is by the side of the road. They had just about caught up from Ivan when the tropical storms started this year and then Dennis hit us. Our pile of limbs has been picked up once since Dennis, but there is a pile out there now that is about 20 feet long by 10 feet wide by 8 feet tall. This mornings paper shows some of the debris still here... and has some links to the photos of all the hurricanes.
