Not sure how one calls the "hedging"of seeds in normal English, but it looks like my Giant Sunflowers, which I put in apot to have a bit of summer in winter, are born!

Are they not cute? At once they were there! The day befpre yesterday I saw one pink little thingy between the grains of earth, and two days later...

Sprouting , germinating , etc. maybe?? Not trying to be sarcastic , but I'm not familiar with that "slang?" English gardening term maybe?? Or perhaps a literal translation of the Dutch term for the same thing?? I sometimes get into problems with literal translations , I've found ,when I go to a translation service , which I sometimes use called babelfish!! I guess I'm being a bit "daft" with my response, even though I understood , I think?, your meaning from the first time I read it!

Cute as a bug's ear. (Dunno about that expression!) There really IS something awesome about a plant that begins to grow from seed!

*feels like a mother from a newborn baby* aaaw thank y`all for congrats and all oooh and aaahs. Off course I shall keep you all updated on the Sunflower`s progress. At the moment they are already rising above the pot but not much exciting is to be seen.

Mr Seedy: Nono, no slang for me, I used the word hedging because in Dutch sprouting and hedging have the same word. I did know hedging was a wrong word but I was not certain of the correct one, therefor I preffered to call it :"hedging"as the shells of the seeds are still on some of the plants like the empty eggshells when a chick has come out of it :P

No need for any explanation or apology gwaloth, as even people who are very fluent and skilled in numerous languages can run into problems when trying to translate some words , and I must say I'm sure your English vocabulary is much larger than my German or Dutch ones, so I've often found the words I translate "literally" from my on-line translator are wrong. I can understand the "error" if one even wants to call it that. There a word here for birds "sprouting" their first feathers as chicks and that's "fledging"??, I think. But now I may have just added to any confusion!! I really wasn't trying to sound critical at all , and hope I didn't offend!!!

Mr Seedy: off course you did not offend :) Anda bout teh birds: I have no idea what you are talking about hahahaha. Now is my biological knowledge in genreal and beasts in particular (xept for guinea-pigs) very very limited I must say...

Sneezie: mine are in front the window also! Marigolds sound lovely! Good luck with em!

I do have some concerns over my Sunflowers...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v480/pencil-and-pen/leaf-top.jpg

Two or three leaves hav ethis on top...I saw it to-day and don`t know what it is...can it harm them? I dare not to spray around with soapsolution as they are so young and tender....

under the leaf it looks like this:

I know they look like lice, but I don`t think it is...it looks different. Anyone an idea what it is and whether it is bad?

Could be mites , but they are related to "lice"! I can't see the bugs in the picture , but usually the spotting and discoloring of leaves is a symptom, but you almost need a magnifying glass to see the actual bugs.

What can I do `bout it? As I already mentioned, I dare not to spray for fear the young dudes will not survive...is it bad anyway?
