Ok, with both dogs running round my garden I have to do a bit of rethinking. The area where I was going to have the big veggy garden (betwen our house and the neighbors to the right of us) is the area Sasha and the pup usually goes potty and run around a lot. So since I have taken the rest of the yard from them it wouldnt be fair to take that away either (untill the pup settles down???) So I have decided I want it too look better and be usefull to all of us. I am going to put three semi-dwarf fruit trees along there that way the dogs wont have low plants to trample, AJ can bury his toys still, they will have shade, I will still get edibles, and it will help hide the veiw of our neighbors on that side.

One or two of the island beds I will "Fence off" and keep the dogs from galloping through to have my veggis in, and I may get some more trees for along the other side where the other neighbor is and have more shady perennials-
I'm thinking Dogwood (red or yellow twig?) and jap maples and have the plants fenced off untill bigger or the pup settles down....I mean I really dont mind it when he lays in the pennyroyal (it repels fleas and ticks and makes him smell good) but my poor hostas, mini roses, mums... :( are really taking a beating!

Anyway I want an apple or two, a plum (the japanease type that needs no cross pollination and tastes like candy!) a pear, and maybe a cherry tree or apricot for spring fruit. My patio will get some shade then which will make a nice sitting area in the summer.

Sounds like you are going to be busy, but sounds like it will be worth it afterwards!
So, you were thinking about planting some Dogwood trees in your plan huh? Those are pretty trees! I have 3 of them ( white ), but making bonsai out of them ( yea, you can do that folks )! So far, I'm pleased with whats taking place with them!

Good Luck to you as you finally decide on a plan and go with it!
Phil :-) ;)

ARGHHHHH!! TPS! I recently got rid of my red barked Dogwood, cuz it was getting crowded out by the purple Beech and a couple of other things. If I knew that you wanted one --- I could have emailed it to ya!

I hope your dogs don't potty on the fruit trees. That's what Buster does. I had to move some plants to the front yard to keep him from doing that. Your plans sound great though. Connie

It sounds like you've got some good plans and are taking care of your furbabies too. ;)

Yeah, my fur babies are spoiled rotton  :D Once the young one is more settled down I can plant more flowers and plants again under the trees. I erally wanted more space for hostas anyway

There's always a bright side. :D You'll have plenty of time to get the ground built up and ready for the new hostas. How about a Bleeding Heart or two also? I love the combination of the lacy leaves with hosta.

I wish all I did was rethink my garden plans. I just dig them up and move them. My plants need wheels on them sometimes. I moved some herbs to the front yard today. I wanted them closer to the kitchen. But I'm finally getting the front yard how I want it. You just have to work at it until it's the way you want. Connie

My hubby wants to plant grass seed over there now- along with those trees I mentioned BUT I told him the dogs urinate a lot over there whcih as we all know, kills grass. So, I will probebly just mulch it all like I will my paths next year as I see no way of keeping healthy organic grass along with dogs there. The grass would have to be very tough to withstand these two knuckleheads.
