I harvested my very first Honeydew melon today! It's a small variety - about 6 inches long (or wide?)

Oh what a little beauty! I've never had any luck at all trying to grow melons. It's weird - we can grow squash and pumpkins galore but never melons.

Way to go! I never did well in getting any mellons to grow for some reason. They start off doing so well, but something happens as time goes along! Yours looks great and thanks for posting ! Now, go enjoy!!!

LOL! I've already enjoyed. That personal-sized melon is 2 slices short of what it was before the pic was taken!

I found our sometimes unpredictable summers could pose a real problem for growing decent mellons , with two years of bumper crops in two back to back hot summers, and then terrible results for the next two summers , that were on the chilly side. I do think they need more heat than the average squash or pumpkin to ripen especially!! You've got my mouth watering with that delicious looking one, and I do love mellons, but gave up after the cool summers. They would have done well this summer providing I'd given them plenty of watering, since rain was in such a short supply!!
