i'm posting a pic of the 6 acre farm. it's south of Traverse City, Michigan. here's more info on it.

please pm for phone # & addy

William Alpers Farmer,

I spoke with Williams mother Wilma this morning and got some information .They have no web site or order list. They encourage buyers to come look. They have nearly 500 different Iris?s which one can order thru July when they dig them for shipping in September . If you know what you want one could call to order and they will gladly dig the best available for you .Cost is only $5.00 per Bulb plus $8.50 shipping which is the same for 1 as 10 the shipping that is.

They also have 300 different types of day lilies also for sale 3 plant pot for $10.00 Plus shipping.

Please call for detail Wilma was very helpful.

OMG! I love them all !!!

I'm extremely curious about the "Midnight Oil". I LOVE mysterious plants! And that one really struck my fancy!

Midnight Oil is actually blacker(is that a word?) than it looks in the pic. if the flash hadn't gone off it would've showed that.

gizmo, I'd forgotten that you too, live in Michigan, and despite my reluctance to drive nowdays and not even having a car, I would have driven a fair distance to see those irises. I love them and would like to add more, if it looks like I've got the iris borers under control for a while. I see one of my irises in a patch that's gotten overcrowded, seems to be getting some fugus or rot , where one large rhizome is lieing right on top of another. I guess it's time to do some thinning, as it doesn't seem to like that much!!! The irises can be prone to rotting once they go into their short dormant period after flowering, and can develope rot if they're kept too well watered. I must be more careful with my hose from now on, til they start growing their new rhizomes for next years flowers, when they can again use a little more water.

MrSeedy, i've been told to make sure and clean up after them a lot. the moth that lays the eggs that produce the borers lays her eggs on the dead foliage that collects. i didn't know enough to keep the watering down! thanks for THAT info!! i must have been a bad girl(advertising  i forgot it's a no-no here)cuz they took away the addy and ph.# i posted for the farm. if you're really interested in contacting this place, let me know and i'll PM you the info...ok?
