I was talking to a little one a foot away yesterday on a feeder. I never said it was dumb, stupid, but said watch the cat that might be under the deck and now that I've put out my caged bird for the summer...I hope you'll will be a total distraction.

I'm not seeing many of our local "purple finches" here this summer for some reason, and I miss them. Can't imagine why they're making themselves scarce, but on second thought I didn't even see the large numbers I normally see through the winter months at the feeders. I hope they aren't experiencing some kind of "dieoff" from some bird disease. Otherwise , their habitat around here hasn't changed as far as I know to cause a drop in populations. I hope!!!!!
I just happened to think, that I may have the wrong ID for that finch pictured , since there is a house finch , which to my untrained eye , looks very similar to our purple finches. I guess the two are closely related, hence the easy confusion for me "in any case" in the ID.

I've seen a few purple finches...I filled a sunflower feeder a few days ago and nothing not even a squirrel. They are after the walnuts I have growing on a tree in the back yard. Thistle, I've been filling it but don't or haven't thought about how to deal with the seedlings under the feeder growing. If there's going to be GE plants you think the bird feeding industry would make a seeds that's healthy for the birds but doesn't sprout...I know it sound impossible but it makes me not want to feed the birds. I can/could make a zillion dollars just to offer a sprinkle of something for the mix...I would be shot...I better be able to make enough to hide.
I would like to be able to converse more about this bio topic not only becasue there's 10 of thousands in Phila this week, but becauce I'm still not sure from personal understanding. It's a very broad topic.
My gatherings has been with GE corn grown near by milkweed fields visited by Monarch butterflies. I'm not even sure if it BT that was introduced. That how crazy it can get when there's not a list of facts. It seemed to have been diffused. But it could be important because birds eat any bug that might eat corn....
We should all remember,
There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.

I never sat down and read the whole 'Silent Spring'. I'm still a kid. I saw a live preformance once.

the wonders and realities of the universe about us,
the less taste we shall have for destruction."

This little albino cardinal visited my feeders for a month last winter. Haven't seen her since January.
