Dear Helen mentioned to me that we could do with a tallish plant to go behind the TV in this corner. As you can see its next to a window, but its a north facing window with vertical blinds kept closed, and tho it looks bright its not that bright, but bright enough for some plants I'd think.
Would a monstera or similar pothos survive here?

Larry I'm not sure about the "right " plant , but being someone who, watered a hanging boston fern right over a TV, and who burned out the circuit board on the TV, when an unexpected gush of water poured over the TV, I'd not recommend plants very close to a TV, since it would be easy to splash water , when watering and TV's are expensive. If you really "insist" on a plant there, I'll give the right plant some more thought!! That's another long story about those plants that tend to get the "shrinking rootball syndrome" when they've been allowed to get overly dry. It's a real trick watering , when all the water gushes down the outsides of the rootball and right out the bottom of the pot and all over everything , and never hang a plant over a TV , nor should you set one on top!!

Well, I'd never put a plant on top of the TV anyway as it would get too hot and dry!

It will be on the floor, well away from the TV but Ive just thought, watering it is going to be a challenge!
Maybe I should get an artificial one (shock horror)

dony ???????? Are you making a point?? Like to live dangerously? I"ve found I even make a point of not putting any drinks on my computer table , so if I want a drink at the computer, I set the beverage on the floor a ways away. I guess some people are just more careful and, so perhaps you could have the plant near the TV for years without an "accident". Anyway , despite my efforts to not set liquids right on the computer table or the CPU, (hard-drive?) it's still possible, knowing my clumsiness , that I could still spill some liquid on my keyboard or hard drive. I pray not!! I did think of another possibility Larry!!! How about one of those corner shelves , which you could use for smaller potted plants and vines like philodendrons etc. Otherwise Dieffenbachia, or Ficus, but you'd have to buy a tall one if you don't have one. Also you could put a small table of inverted bucket or something similar to give your dracaena the added height so it would be above the TV?? You'd still need to reach over the TV to water any plant there , so there would still be some risk of "spills"!! EEEGADS!!! AN ARTIFICIAL PLANT , NEVER!!!!

ok Maybe I'M simple... then maybe the solution is. :D Get a plant stand to put back there! And my suggestion for the plant is a rubber tree! They can go quite a while without water and can endure low light too!

I'd agree moonbaby about the rubber plant, as they do tend to grow straight up indoor and don't tend to get too bushy for a small location.

What about an Aspidistra (Cast Iron Plant)? They'll survive just about anywhere. I have one standing by my stairs about 8 foot from the nearest window and even that's East facing. I've had it abut 3 years and in that times it's had about 4-5 yellow leaves that I've removed but still looks really good. It's grown a couple of new ones, too.

As for watering near the TV - if the plant's on the floor, surely that isn't an issue?

This plant has been growing in a dark corner of my lounge for years and years. Never did find out what it is. It's a vine of some sort. If I could take a cutting from it you can have it.

Maybe a Sansevieria would work you would only have to water it once a month. I like moonbaby's a high plant stand would add to the height and you could use the plant you have.

Rich,,that looks like a Cissus antartica to me, used to have one of those, nice plant!

I like the sound of an Aspidistra too, but it would have to be on a pillar as they dont grow tall, and I hate rubber plants, apart from ficus benjamina.
