I bought this hosta and the tag said Sue and Substance anyone ever heard of it? I think it's Sum and Substance. I googled it and all that came up was Sum and Substance. Anyone know if it's a Sum and Substance or not? Connie

It very well could be, though it looks like you have a very young plant. I'd describe the color of the Sum and Substance as being one of the "key" identifiers as it has very light green leaves with a hint of yellow (to my eye) , but the color will vary with the amount of sun it gets as well, and mine which are growing in too much sun turn quite yellow by midsummer. Other than that it's just a guess, and short of having a tag there are so many varieties and so many that look almost alike that giving a positive I.D. without a tag would only be guess.

I know a number of people in America who have Sum & Substance.
I think it has very large leaves if my whithering memory serves me correctly. I'd like that one myself.

Rich , don't you see that one offered often in England. I think the plant may have been bred in Holland originally, so I'm somewhat surprised it wouldn't have shown up in England before it even made it's way across the pond. I hope you find one soon and I love mine, but I think mine had leaves only a quarter inch across as a very young plant, and it took probably seven years for the leaves to reach "about " full size, so the size of the leaves isn't much help in the ID when the plants are young.

I think MrS is right it may need more sun to get the yellow cast. Some of the leaves look like they are getting some yellow cast to them. Mine is in morning sun and some afternoon sun so it is yellow.
I have not heard of Sue Substance. If it is Sum & Substance give it lots of room. I have to dig mine out or move somethngs. When I say room I really mean ROOM!!! Mine is 3 yrs old and it is 4' wide and 3' high and growing.

Mr. Seedy and Audwoman, It is a new plant that I just bought this week. There was a tag that said Sue and Substance. But I can't find it on the internet. I think it was mislabled. It actually has a blue cast to the leaves. Maybe next year we can Id it better. Thanks, Connie

Rich, If you can't buy Sum and Substance there you might try getting some seed. I have seen lots of hosta seed on the net. I don't think we can send plants to you guys can we? Connie

Was it a hand written tag? Not everything is on the net, I've purchase a Yucca 'Margaretaville' and couldn't find it, but that does look like a young Sum and Substance to me. I tried a few at that stage.

I went to that annoying year end Hosta sale that keeps flashing on google ads  and they did have another hosta called, something(?) and Substance. I can't remember if it was Sue?
Anyway, there was hundreds of hostas to go through while looking for Sum and Substance, so I got pretty excited when I saw it   but nope.
 So there is a plant out there with a similiar name, although I can't remember what it is. Sorry

it is a fantastic hosta, one of my favorites.
i hope it is s&s
