gizmo, I don't do anything except I generally don't fertilize them until after they start forming buds. Maybe that is it.

Your gardens sure are making up for a slow start and they're looking beautiful. I'd almost kill for such a beautiful peony!! My grandfather always had those beutiful old fashioned garden "pinks" or Dianthus for years and they can be really tough little plants. They do love a little "lime" in the soil, so if one has acid soil , a little crushed limestone applied is helpful. They also don't like overly wet conditions and I think his were growing in raised beds and got good drainage.

Your iris has such pretty pastels colors, very unique! I can see you have alkaline soil because every plant I see that prefers alkaline grows full and beautiful in your garden, like the dianthus. I try my best in my garden with them but they never do so well. This is why I love looking at everyone's pictures, I get to see all flowers in their best forms. ;) :D

In the first picture...way in the back you have an arch. Where did you get that? Looks like a wide opening like one that I have. Just curious because it wasn't esign to be used in a garden but for a promotion, Bud Lite.

I have an archway into the veggy garden plus I have an arbor over a swing (not fancy-I built it myself ^_^ ). I have a thing for trellises, arbors, gazebos, lucky for me my DH is a welder. He made me an arbor over the back gate out of a display rack, took my wimpy cheap arbor ( the top comes up to a point and there is an arrow ornament topping it off) that wouldn't even support sweet peas and beefed it up so it will hold up to most vines now. He built me a small gazebo out of an mesh satalite dish. My bistro table and chairs sets under it perfectly. This summer we are going to cut a solid satalite dish in half and use it as a porch over the garden and greenhouse doors. I'll lay a brick pad under it and copy the arc of the new "porch roof". We found a HUGE solid dish that he is going to mount on the back of the garden shed so he can park the four wheelers and lawn mowers under it. Most people are glad to have them hauled away. We are definately into recycling. I'll post them after the vines get a little taller.
