View Full Version : So Sad

I can't even get out in the garden.

I have a new full time job which has me working hours between 4am-7pm. But it pays well, thank god.

So this job leaves me with 2 hours a day (1 lunch and 1 breakfast each) to myself to come home, clean, feed the pets, feed calves way up the back of the farm (have to cart 40 litres of milk by wheelbarrow which is no easy task in itself since the ground I need to push it over is *very* pugged and bumpy), shift cows, get the chicken eggs, and be back at work all in a hour.

And the sad thing is there is no time for me to get in the vegetable garden anymore :( :( :( :( I walk past and see weeds growing like mad, but my spuds are up I see and my garlic is doing great. There has been no real time to stop and have a good look.

I can't wait until the 21st for my 4 days off so I can get the weeds under control and RELAX!

I hope for your sake Kiwi, those hours are only very temporary , unless you absolutely have to work such long hours. Years ago if I'd work even 12 hour days , I think I'd start to smell after a while, since time was so limited for meals and sleep and all the other normal chores, that I sometimes had to cut my daily showers to no more than thirty seconds. Barely could find time to even go to the "loo"! Please promise us , unless you're supper human and have much more stamina than the average person, that you'll take it a little easier. The extra money is nice, but that time is precious and can't be gotten back at a later date when you think about all the fun things you would have preferred doing instead of work!! My opinion , I guess, but then again I don't have any money in the bank either!!

Just the thought of those hours are scary Kiwi, reminds me of my younger days when the kids were little I worked two fulltime jobs and a part timer on the weekends. Still trying to figure out how I survived that period.   But then I didn't have a garden to weed.

It makes me tired just to think of those long hours Kiwi. I sure hope it's only temporary.

Goodness, thanks for the kind words of support.

I'm a dairy farmer, and have been all my life but have never worked on a herd of the size I'm working (milking 950 cows) at the moment.

I'm not finding it physically demanding. I guess thats because its what I grew up doing... my "mother nature" I guess?

I'm conscious of my daily routine. And I'm very conscious about what I eat and drink, when I eat and so on. I'm conscious of "burning out". But what I'm finding really weird is that I'm too busy to even think about eating anything that I'm simply not hungry since my mind is always occupied. Having said that I do make the conscious effort to eat something even if I'm not hungry. I need to keep my energy up.
I can go without breakfast (can't stomach it anyway - never have been able to), lunch and dinner without feeling the slightest bit hungry. Generally if I dont eat during the day, I'll have a bloody good healthy/hearty feast at dinner time.

If the moderators don't mind, I have started a Blog since having stating working full time on this dairy farm. Here is the link ('http://woodlinsfarming.blogspot.com/') and is the mods don't want it here then you may remove it (like I have a say, eh? :D)

But I do miss my vegetable garden.
I have Wednesday up till and including Saturday all off so I will get stuck in there and do some weeding. I may even do some tomorrow morning so I'm allowed a sleep in until 7:30am.
