My beautiful William Baffin rose has black spot (curses on all the rain we've had this spring  ) I'v googled it and have a list of chemical solutions but wanted to know if there is an organic cure or, if not, what is the best chemical?? I've never had this before :( .

I know I've been made fun of for my expensive compost tea sprayer but it seems to really be doing the trick. I use the tea as a soil drench on the affected plants every 14 days and am religous about picking up the litter and am getting the better of it (knock wood). Let me know if you want the link .

I think the "compost" tea may act by boosting the plants natural "immune" system to attacks by the "blackspot", but luckily it's never been a big problem with my roses. Of course though, mine refuse to grow in the first place!! Seems funny how roses in my garden can refuse to grow decent roots, but otherwise a very little troubled by black spot and bugs etc. I've used the soda spray to a limited degree and it did seem to help for powdery mildew and some other disease as well.

I was advized to use a week milk solution 1part full cream to 2 parts water spray over bush after removing all affected leaves including fallen ones.Place them in a plastic bag and bin them as they can spread the spores. Then use a seaweed solution in about two weeks to help new growth along.I had to do this last year after a humid spell and ended up with naked roses  but they bounced back and were fine all except an old variety which had struggled for years and I only kept because I can't bear to pull up a rose

I cut out the worst of the plant and have picked up any leaves. I am treating it with a chemical spray I got at the nursery.
