Bought this Hydrangea Paniculata Grandiflora today, I recently saw it at a garden show and had to have it, it's about 8 feet high, and it's a good job we haven't sold DW's estate car yet. Driving home with it swaying in front of my face with the rootball at the back of the car was entertaining. US shorten the name to PeeGee apparently.
The place I bought it from is a wholesaler who only opens to the public a few times a year.
They had all sorts there and we bought some bulbs and two other shrubs, one was the deepest, purplest buddleia ever (Dark Knight). The other was a replacement for the fremontodendron that curled up its toes this year.

lovely hydrangea pan you're having there, Rich. :D Great find! Have that too, and its doing so well. Very hardy and tough. Btw, you can easily grow more from cuttings.

I really should consider that one Rich, since the macrophyllums aren't totally dependable for flowering in my yard, and those are much more cold hardy. Your's is very pretty!!!

Very pretty! :D
I can relate to the big plant in the car! A few years ago I found some 8 foot tall sycamore trees at a real bargain price. I bought 2 and drove home with the tops (about 4 feet) sticking out the back windows of my Altima!  I got some very strange looks!!

I want one. I want one. I want one. I can't find a nice big one like that, that is trained into tree form. All I can find is a bush and will have to train it myself. :(

That's really the only way to have it...as a standard. There's a few I look after at work and all the blooms are one the ground, looks ugly in fact as a bush, well maybe as first (need to prune?)....they went brown the flowers already before even turning a nice shade of pink. Could be 'cause it's dry but with irrigation..... not sure. I was really looking for some dry cut flowers for inside, all over. You'll only have to cut them at the right time....either hung upside down or just in a vase with a few inches of water..just enough before they get limp I guess. Let it soak it up and just keep them there. I wish all flower were like those stuck in vase forever, well at least until next year.
Is that dark night not black night? That sounds like the really deep one I see for sale here in the US.

Ours has been with the house for over 90 years at least. Great little tree  I think you'll be happy with it. At least I don't think it will become a future shredder post.
