anyone ever grow bonsai fron seed?? a friend bought me them and they are said to be Japanese Black Pine ... I had about 20 sprouts from the packet of seeds and this is the only one that lived. I moved the little guy to a smaller pot and he is getting bigger...must be doing something right.

Best of luck with the new baby, and it should provide a good specimen for a future bonsai. Sorry to say my one attempt to start some Chamaecyparis indoors was a total flop and none of those seeds germinated. I think I forgot to give the required chilling period they require to germinate??

Growing a bonsai from seed huh ? You had some luck ! I've tried several different times and several different kinds and had no luck ! ( I think that a person who is really into growing plants ( even bonsai ) probably either has thought about seed or has even tried to grow one in their life )!
Their really is no such thing as a bonsai seed though ( yea, let that slip huh )?
If you look on the packet somewhere it will say these words: "Seeds suiteable for bonsai". They are hard to start growing from seed sometimes and yours seems to be doing just great! ( I have another way that you can tell if a bonsai is grown from seed and not a true bonsai : its the roots , seed has several little white roots where as a true bonsai has yellow, white, brown dark roots ) You did well and I'm glad to see that a bonsai really has been started from seed to! Good Luck with it and may you continue to enjoy it for many years to come!
Thanks for sharing it to!
Phil :-) :D

Aww that's cute just the it is! Good luck with it! I didn't do too well with my bonsai seed either. I'll try again in the future.

Well, youve got a long wait ahead of you, if you can get it past the seedling stage.
You need to pant it out in the garden for about 10-20 years to get a good thick trunk going, even if you want a small bonsai!
One thing to remember, theres no such thing as bonsai seed.
