Ok not really on tv but didnt know where else to post this. Ive been slowly working on a dvd collection of horror movies and its starting to get confusing. Yes I admit it Im a fan of the cheesy slasher movies such as nightmare on elm street. I love freddy krueger. Im not a big fan of the friday the 13th but have to include them in the collection. Ok thats where it started slasher films but now im broadening the scope a bit. I just picked up a legacy collection of frankenstein. Its the original black and white version with boris karloff and the collection includes the bride of frankenstein and a few others. Im also getting the other legacy collections for :the invisible man, the mummy, wolfman, and dracula. Ok so I have the classics from the 30's and 40's then i have to include newer versions of mummy movies and vampire movies, etc. so now i have several collections going. where do i go from there? I could make it by era, classics from the 50's 60's, 70's etc. or just keep them separated such as vampire movies, zombie movies, slasher flicks, etc. do i include sci-fi, the fly? ants, you know the mutated bugs, the blob, the thing? where does alfred hitchcock fit in? what about steven king films? so many decisions
so are you a fan of horror movies? what kind of collection would you have?

my DH is a fan of old black and white sci-fi. he has the Boris Karloff ones, Frankenstien. he doesnt' care for Stephen King or slasher movies, but loves the ones like the Blob or Killer Tomatoes. Swamp Thing. he's got quite a collection of them now. and he loves Kung Fu and old Japanese films.
not me, give me a good comedy or romance. even a good suspense film.

that would be so cool to live right where they filmed pet semetary. i loved that movie. I think im getting ahead of myself and in stead of starting one collection of horror movies like i had intended im starting several smaller collections within one big one. well erdine maybe part of the collection would be to your liking. in the middle of the mummy collection i will have to include the abbott and costello meet the mummy movie. i think they have a couple of others as well. wasnt fond of the killer tomato movie, couldnt even sit through the whole thing but i did like the blob. that was good classic clean horror. you have to be in the right mind set for a good slasher film. they are a breed all their own

No horror collection is complete without the 1974 version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Classic true crime IMHO

oh most definitely texas chainsaw massacre will be in my slasher section both the original and the new remake. Im working on the nightmare on elm street collection. If I had $130 to spend on movies I would buy the box set but I dont so one at a time will have to do. and of course the friday the 13th movies, halloween, I also have most of the hellraiser movies and want to get th phantasm ones too.
Now with the shining I love the original and its on my list but do i include the remake as well???
I dont think i can go with just scary because i wouldnt consider frankenstein or the mummy or wolf man as scary but they will be in there. you cant have a horror collection without some boris karloff, lon chaney and bella lugosi

i LOVE scary movies!!! don't forget 'Fright Night'...greatest vamp movie i've seen. also, 'Stir of Echoes', with Kevin Bacon...not sure where that would fit in. Ghost movies maybe? if you had a catagory for them you could add 'Sixth Sense' and 'The Ring', too.

I think you should just number them and have a catalog and not worry about classification.
My cousin worked on the sixth sence with editing. I haven't seen him in years but saw his name.
More than movies, I have to say some of the shows from Night Gallery was frightfull. I would like to be able to have a bunch of them from the past.
There's got to at least one person in group that almost make you want to pee your pants because they scream...and jump at everything...My mom, I can't get past a movie without cracking up in laughter.

Oh yes I hve to have teh ring, sixth sense, stir of echoes just to name a few. those I would classify as thrillers i think. not so much scary as suspensful and i love them. I forgot about fright night that was one of my favorites when i was younger. I started with a love of cheesy vampire movies and have moved from there. I am learning there is a whole world of horror I never knew about. People think we americans are bad has anyone ever seen any of the italian or japanese horror films? talk about disturbed!!!

Wait Until Dark with Audrey Hepburn scared me to death.
Also - the original "The Haunting" - the one with Julie Harris and Russ Tamblyn. Spooky! The one with Liam Neeson (although I really like him) STINKS!

I just bought a copy of the original the haunting. Ive never seen it cant wait to watch it. i had completely forgotten about the godzilla movies. and invasion of the body snatchers. now would movies like close encounters of the 3rd kind be considered horror or sci-fi???? Im starting to make a wishlist of all the movies i would like and its getting rather long. I thought there were only 4 hellraiser movies and I just found out there are 7! and here I thought I was only missing 1.
ive never heard of "Tingler" whats that one about?
Anyone ever heard of a movie called "The Snorkel" ?

Oh you have to include Alfred hitcock's The Birds. When I was a kid I scared myself so silly with it I wouldn't go to the beach all summer because of the seagulls. Also What lies beneath I think sometimes what isn't shown can be just as scary as what is.

oh most definitely will have a section for "ghost" type movies. I love what lies beneath. I think this new hobby is going to be expensive. Right now im looking for older movies and out of print movies. things from the 30s, 40s and 50's. apparently im going to have a lot of movies with bela lugosi and boris karloff

Here's the scoop on the Tingler. I saw it when I was about 11 or 12. Scard me to death.
The Tingler
Written by: Robb White
Starring:Vincent Price, Judith Evelyn, Darryl Hickman, Patricia Cutts
The Story
A coroner played by Vincent Price discovers that fear causes a creature to grow on a persons spine. He discovers this during an autopsy on a deaf-mute girl - Judith Evelyn - who has died from fright (should have bought insurance). Price captures the creature, but it gets loose in a theater, presumably the one where you are viewing the movie. Lots of experiments, a bad LSD trip (the films only color sequence) and screaming make this a classic thriller. This is probably the best known of Castle's films due to his creative use of a gimmick he called Percepto (see below). A nice writeup and two clips are available from the Dewey Web.
The Gimmick
Percepto - This effect involved rigging selected theater seats with a vibrating buzzer unit under the seat. At predetermined times during the film the projectionist would set off these "tinglers", resulting in lots of screaming. A special crew traveled the country setting up theaters for this effect.
Tidbits
In all William Castle estimates they probably buzzed 20,000,000 bottoms through the full run of this film in theaters. Also of note - Judith Evelyn must hold the distinction of being the only Castle movie heroin NOT to scream.
I happened to be sitting in one of those seats with the "tingler". Surprised I didn't have a heat attack

Oh yeah I have an entire section set aside just for zombie movies and another devoted to the great slashers of our time. Jason will be at the top of the list although Freddy Krueger is still my favorite. I just subscribed to a shared movies website where you can download movies. I cant wait to see what kind of horror selection they have. its $20 for a one year membership with unlimited downloads. this should get my collection kickstarted. now to find room for all the new movies. I just hope the quality is as good as they claim it is

The only movie that ever scared me...I even saw a new release..The Curse this weekend, wasn't even about or within really the movie...The Stand, where the power lines were torn down....it wasn't seeing the crow or meeting a creepy people along the way...it was why the movie that stuck out. It was that element.

Oh come on now Freddy is awesome! granted he doesnt have as many kills as jason but he has better one liners in his movies
I havent seen cursed yet I finally just saw White Noise. Not to bad. I was expecting it to be a little scarier but I liked the fact that it wsa based on real events that makes any movie scarier to me.
I watched my 1963 release of the haunting. Wow what a difference between todays movies but i was very impressed. I really like old balck and whites. I even watched a Twilight Zone marathon this weekend
