I have to start this thread before Jennie does so that we can get a picture or two up before Jennie takes up all the room.
Here's my measly contribution. I didn't get too far today. I didn't even finish the table.

:lol:so you're not going overboard with the decorations then
I haven't even thought about mine yet they're all still in the loft, have to get them out for the 13th though as my babies are coming home for the weekend:hug:

I like the look of the table, and you are far ahead of me because I haven't
even taken the squashed up old Christmas tree out of the laundry cupboard.
I always tried to buy "genuine" trees in the old days, but plastic took over
when the children left. I hope the fairy lights can be untangled and that they
still work this year.

I think for a perfect Christmas you need a very small child staggering into the
room and saying oooooooh, aaaaaah, pointing to the twinkliness of it all.

oh so true Pennylee, I love Christmas when we're all together, but it's the small children and their wide-eyed wonder that makes it.
grindle, that will be so nice for you when your babies are home.

I bought a basket with some evergreen branches, holly leaves and a Santa-on-a-stick, put it on my dining room table (after clearing off enough space) and called it good. Without children in the house it's just too much trouble. I was going to do my yard yesterday but it was rainy, cold and windy. Maybe next weekend I can drag the raindeer and spiral tree out of the basement.

The big plan is to start decorating this weekend. I promised the kids that they could put up the tree after we vacuum and dust etc. May as well take advantage of the extra help.;)

I did some online Christmas shopping today. I spent most of the afternoon looking at this and that and got a good start on it.

We put up the outdoor decorations yesterday. First time we've ever done that without running back in the house every 15 minutes to warm our fingers up! It was about 55 with a nasty wind blowing. I'll take pics tomorrow.

Thanks for looking guys. I didnt even show you everything  I have the bathroom decorated too. And my china cabinet is full of christmas dishes. I even decorated the laundry/mud room  My mom got me some decorations that are clotheslines with miniature santa, mrs claus and elves clothes on them, they are super cute!

So far all I've done is get my Christmas village together.
The first pic is a real close up to show you the stores that DH and I built and painted. Each store is 'owned' by a member of the family. DH has the Saloon (he was still drinking when we built them, almost a tee-totaler now ) and the drinkers have moved outside! I have the Mercantile and am sweeping the snow away. It is 'suppose' to be a western town.

Sis and I are not going to do any major decorating this year.I'm going to decorate my lamp post(keep it indoors)and she is doing her fiber optic tree. She just found batteries for her camera so hopefully I will be able to post pics soon.We cleaned our storage room and put everything else up in the attic,so,that is that. Now,I'm discovering that we packed away all the lights,so,I'll have to buy a couple of strings tomorrow while I'm out.Other than the nativity, that'll be all we do...unless I just can't help myself and buy something new...you know just a little something new to document this year....

And here you thought I lounged on the couch all day
Must have been hard as heck dragging around the couch all over the house while you decorated.

Linda, nice job on the village! Great idea with the ownership. I like villages. I haven't taken mine out yet.

Pennylee

I am so stimulated by good examples here that after lunch I am definitely going to rush into the laundry
cupboard, find the tree, which will have to be unsquashed, the lights,
which will have to be untangled, and the box with the decorations.
You would not believe how many times this year I have found this box when
I didn't want it, and now it will have somehow manoeuvred itself into a dark corner
under old sprinklers and plumbing equipment that will never ever plumb again,
and will have to be hunted out with a torch.

I have to tell you, however, that I had a really successful shopping morning at
the nearest big shopping centre. I wore my Asics and didn't care who
saw them, and my feet don't hurt now. I found presents for all my
close family and some others and remembered the wrapping paper.
This success, compared with other years, has sent the blood flowing
through my veins. I can manage a bit of decorating now.

 Linda those are lovely, bet you're going to find it strange not being under feet of snow this Christmas

Penny I never know where to look for the decorations in the loft, every year I put them in the same place and every year they've managed to find somewhere else they like better:lol:

I've had a hard time finding everything this year with moving. Things got a little scattered. On top of that, when we first moved in the shed leaked so DH pulled everthing out so he could stop the leaks. That night we had a good old TEXAS rain storm, buckets of rain falling sideways because of the wind and it soaked everything. I don't know how we lucked out but there were only a few things ruined. I bought the big plastic containers for everthing now.

December 7th, 2008, 07:48 AM
I don't think so Blue as it's a job I don't enjoy. Anyway it's up I'll try and post a pic or two later. Of course they had to use all the bits and bobbles etc. that they found in boxes downstairs. I, however, drew the line at a blue garland they found in one of their mom's boxes.

I learned something about myself when they were doing it. Their mom told them not to worry about where they put things as, when she and her brother's decorated the tree they'd come back from school the next day and everything would be moved. She said that Nana has an obsession for conformity. Now do you believe that?

Blue Belle
December 7th, 2008, 09:07 AM
She said that Nana has an obsession for conformity. Now do you believe that?
I never would have believed it!

I think we've all done that. The funny part of it is that we think our kids never noticed, then when they're older, they tell us they knew all along.

Sashweezy
December 7th, 2008, 01:04 PM
Right Blue and surprise, surprise, I've been at it already.

Here's the original creation and a picture of Santa's Little Helper getting a doggie treat after supervising the decorating.

If you look closely you'll notice the garland round the entranceway to the dining room was pulled down by a kitty and had to be put up again before getting more bows on it. I hadn't even noticed until after I took the pic. And there she was under the tree looking like she hadn't done a thing.

Blue Belle
December 7th, 2008, 01:24 PM

DD put up our puny tree today. It didn't look too bad last year, but this year DS is almost the same height. He sprouted a few inches in the last few months. He put the angel on the tree with no problem. Kind of like the Bumble on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Audwoman

Aud, thanks, he's three and is my co-pilot when I go out driving. The legs you see in the background are my sixteen year olds, she'll be seventeen in February. She's a sweetie also. From day one she's shared everything with him. I got him three years ago as I thought she wasn't going to be with me much longer but he gave her a lease on life. :)

Erdine, my sister sent that to me after she saw his pic with Santa early last December.........and it still fits. :)

Blue, she's a devil when she wants to be, but she can be an angel also. I think you have to do what I do and tweak the tree when they're not around. ;)

I love the dog with no end in sight, and his Christmas clothes.

I had a bad start with my gift wrapping, as the big stickytape which gives
the parcels a more refined look (two pieces at the most and each is secure) flipped back and concealed itself from further use. Even wielding
an old fashioned can opener did not solve the problem of a totally smooth
tape without a way to use it. So I'm making the best of the tiny little tapes
which so far seem to be nobly holding things together. I know some people
can make beautiful shapes, tight and smooth, using a minimum of help from any kind of tapes, but on the other hand they
don't produce the exciting knobbly corners that I do.

Pennylee, you give me such hope that I am going to put this computer down and get out there! I have no idea where any decor might be in my storage, so I have too good an excuse to just chill this year but I will start the hunt for gifts because of your encouragement. Off I go!

Pennylee
December 8th, 2008, 05:17 PM
Well, isn't that nice, Galu? And to Jennie and Erdine, I love kind words,
so thank you all.

I'm enjoying hearing how everyone decorates the house in the old
traditional ways. If I keep my health and strength, I plan to do more
in 2009, when I will have some better facilities for entertaining. A new
oven too. But this present old house has seen some happy Christmases
in the past, especially in the times when we left Santa a drink and a piece of cake and a carrot for the reindeer.

I didn't do any decorating this year. I can only imagine the "FUN" Miss Kitty would have had with the decorations. She is into everything and I mean everything. My little grand kids aren't coming home for Christmas this year and I also think they are the joy of Christmas. So Miss Kitty and me are going to have a quiet, non decorated Christmas. I'll enjoy seeing your pix that you post, so post away. Connie

Here's a pic of the beautiful snowman my grandson made me on a classroom project. They had a class trip to a studio and made a ceramic figure. He picked the snowman. Cheap at the cost only $12. On the bottom it says, Tristan Xmas 2008, to Nana and a heart drawn. :)

I put him on my stove to take the pic so he's show up really well.

Everything looks so lovely and festive.

Donna I'm so sorry you don't like angels. :lol:Actually they are all so lovely. Never heard of the masqurade dolls before but you do have a real nice collection of them.

Alberta I love all your cross stitch work. I did some in years past but my eyes aren't as good as they once where so I haven't done any lately. I never did anyting as lovely as that winter sceen of yours. I really love that.

You all have such lovely decoration. I am jealous. I am pushing to exhaustion to get the downstairs of my house done so I can have Christmas at my new house. All I am going to have time to do is put up one Tree. If I get it done I will post a pic Christmas Eve.

Aud, take it easy. Don't push yourself to the extent that you can't enjoy the holiday. :)

Blue you are just mean. I am moving as fast as the old body will go.

Aud, will you be serving hot cocoa??:lol:

My boyfriend has never asked me to make him any hot cocoa. He buys cold chocolate milk. You think he knows what I did? I never told him. He thinks I am an angle.

Sash, I have a goal and I hope I am not to tired to enjoy the fun. I love Christmas but because things did not go as fast as they should I figured it was already ruined I will try to do what I can to save the day.

How festive, Penny! I love the Bumble. Does he bounce? ;)

I thought he moved, but he doesn't seem to, but he does roar. :p

I love all your pics P&R but especially your mantle pic. :)

Are they sketches of the dogs above it? Are just great!

Yes, they are. A good friend of mine had them done up for us one Christmas, so they get the best wall in the house. :)

I love how everyone has done up their homes. Some of you go all out and they look so festive!

Erdine, I love how you have that snow under your tree with your village under it.

Alberta those are beautiful. I am not crafty.

My tree does not come down until I have the energy. Most time about the 16 of January.
