I haven't seen any hummingbirds in my yard this week. I think they're gone for the winter. Buster

I was startled to see one at my feeder yesterday. He drank for a long while, so he must have been tanking up for the long flight. I'm not going to take the feeders down until this weekend, just ot be safe...

They might have buster. I know they're usually gone at the end of Sept. for me here in zone 6. I noticed last week, tons of them flying around the yard, almost like a feeding frenzie and this week it has really slowed down. Some might have started their journey south here too.

I'm still seeing my one lone female, but she'll most likely leave soon, and its' unfortunate I took so long to relocate the hummingbird feeder, since evidently she didn't like the previous location and it took me all summeer to decide to move the feeder . I wanted a location right near a window , so I could get a good look indoors without having to go outdoors and watch them, but placing the feeder near an airconditioner that was on most of June and July was probably not the best idea, since it most likely kept the hummers away. I guess they need to leave sort of early for a long trip, but I'm not sure how far south they go for the winter?? Anyone know??

I had one buzz me when I got out of the car at home yesterday. :D I had on a bright pink jacket so I guess he was checking to see if I was some type of strange, humongous flower!! Well, at least the strange part was true!!

I am in Maine and have seen them today, I was afraid, I have been getting such mixed messages, my mother is si afraid that if I leave my feader up, they won't go south and they will die, but I have read that is an old wives-tale. I guess I will read a bunch of the previous posts and see what I can find on the subject. In a greedy way, I am still so happy to see them, they are one of my bright spots when I feel down.

I'm sad to say , I didn't see my little lady hummingbird yesterday , and she doesn't usually miss a day since she started comming to my feeder, so I'd guess maybe she's gone south. I'll wait and see if she doesn't make an appearance today , and if not, I'd guess she's moved on!!! So sad to say!! Counld also be that the mounting numbers of yellow jackets at the feeder daily are making her stay away from the feeder now!!
