Well my 2001 Dell Dimension 4300S desktop finally died. :( It was diagnosed with needing a new mother board and new hard drive. It will be sorely missed as it was my first ever brand new, out of the box, nobody had touched before computer.

Yesterday I wandered over to PC Dude and checked out some rebuilt systems. I checked on getting another new computer, but I so DO NOT WANT Vista that my only options were to get a used one or get a new Dell that has both Vista and XP on it. Well, he had one with XP on it, plus tons of memory, ram, etc. I took it home, hooked everything up and WOW was I SHOCKED! As soon as I clicked on the "internet" icon I was ON LINE! I typed in a web address and BOOM I was there. I clicked a link and BANG there I was. Talk about fast - I think I'm in love.

Now I am here at work and this thing is so SLLLOOOOWWWW. Too funny as it was faster than my Dell but after just using the new/used one for a few hours last night and 45 minutes this morning I am spoiled. They keep promising me a new computer at work, in fact have told me that I would get one this month, but it's almost the 15th.....

Can I work from home?!?!?!

How much does the price differ from new to used? Sounds like a fast little machine you got. I don't want Vista either, but I have a feeling my machine is on the brink of dying. Took it to Geeks & they said it was fine, no problem! Brought it home and right when I turned it on there was an error & it crashed after being on for a half hour.

Crossing fingers & toes you get that new machine for work. ;)

I'm on my 3rd computer system and it's starting to give me some trouble on/off. I have went through an HP,Compaq and now using a Dell system ( the Dell has been the worse of the 3 and I have a love/hate relationship going on with it now too ) I don't want the Vista at all when I go to get another system. I might go with a Mac as XP and Vista seem to make things more complicated within a PC.( Besides, you don't hear of any Mac's getting very many viruses that will turn one grey trying to overcome them )
I'm happy for your update into the computer world and wish you the best as you sound very pleased with the results each and everytime you play with your new toy!!

Bill Gates has discovered that he cannot fix all the bugs in Vista so it is going to be dropped. I do not know when but I heard it is history.

I still have XP never really liked it but it was suppose to be trashed when he brought out Vista. I think it is all a game to keep people buying new systems or new computers. As long as my XP works I will be using it.

:grin:I have XP on this one, I got it Used as well. I told the geek that I wanted something for Internet, pictures and music. He got me a P-4 with 40 gb. $190.00 It's doing what I asked for, and I saved over a grand

I have had an E Machine from day one. I upgraded a few years ago and this one has Vista. Once I got used to it I haven't had any problems. Now if I could just get DSL I would be happy. It seems this will be the last place on earth to be able to get it.:lol::lol::lol:

I have Dell, XP, on broadband but it is the lowest form of broadband and
is reduced in speed once I have used up my allowance each month.
Generally speaking I don't have big problems with this, except that most
videos online have long breaks in them while someone out there turns a
handle to get them going again. Occasionally there is a video that will
adapt itself to slower speeds, but I wish they all would do this for me.

Wow Chris that sounds great. I know when my daughter got me this one, [um an HP] I was really amazed at how fast they have gotten. Since I used to have a "dragon"!

Well, to be honest, I didn't do much shopping around. I glanced at new puter prices on line and the Dell (which I happened to be happy with) was going to be a minimum of $500. This one I got is an HP Compag dx2300 Microtower with an Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2160 @1.80 GHZ, CD burner with DVD player and I forget how much RAM - 1 gig? It's the dual processor that make it so fast. I paid $300 for it. With the limited things I do online I am hoping I can get another 8 years out it.

As for Vista, yeah, there is a new operating system they are working on to be available sometime in 2010. It's not supposed to take up as much RAM and be more user friendly. You'd think if you were to spend that much time and money to create an OS that you would make sure the bugs were all worked out - try on REAL people - get feedback and have a quality product on the market.

Of course, I was extremely happy with Windows 2000, still have a disc for it, but it's impossible to find drivers and software now to run the other stuff. It's unfortunate.

Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase. It comes with a limited warranty.
