There was a thread here about "White Sage" awhile back... and I've had the name on my "list of things to pick up". Today, I went to a nursery and asked if they had White Sage. She assured me that they did and showed it to me and said "Well, it's more of a grey colour". I bought it and took it home and THEN read the label that said "Common Sage"!!!!!! Grrrr! What's the difference between White and Common? Oh, and by the way... it looks green to me!!!
I love the smell of it, but have a feeling I was roped into it!

Id take the place back with receipt of purchase and make sure you see the person who sold it to you as "white sage".
I've personally never heard of White Sage before so cannot help you there.

Is it Salvia apiana? That's the White Sage we were talking about before.
The new growth will appear white. I believe common sage is Salvia officinalis.
The person probably thought she knew what she was talking about.
Well, did you need a new sage plant?

Common sage is usually the sage used for culinary purposes. White Sage is used for medicinal purposes. Common sage is a beautiful gray-green plant which I believe will enhance any garden. It complements other more colorful plants with it's rich foliage. It has a delicate flower and a wonderful fragrance. Bees love it,and butterflies seem to like it too. I would keep it and enjoy, I don't think you will be disapointed. White Sage is silvery white and grows a bit larger than the common sage. I don't have personal experience with this plant yet, but I am certain that it will do well when I plant it (soon,I hope!)
