Does anyone here do any fall decorating? Indoors or outdoors? I usually get a bale of hay for the porch and put pumpkins, gourds and dried Indian corn on it. And I put up a dried corn stalk against the porch beam. I had a blue jay nipping at the corn one year.

A couple of years ago I made more of a kiddie display. I put some grass into a plastic pumpkin and asters and mums into plastic cauldrons. The kids in the neighbourhood were pointing and giggling at the pumpkin's "hair". The grass is called Carex 'Frosted Curls'.

I'd like to do something more formal this year. I bought two of the faux pumpkins a couple of years ago, and they're still in the bag. I thought maybe I'd put some asters or mums into them and put them on the porch. Or maybe make a dried flower arrangement in one for indoors. Maybe put it on my armoire.

That is so adorable Blue. I never decorated for Fall other than some dried flowers and fall leaves in a container on the porch after I bring in my Summer plants. I only did that because the porch looked so bad when I removed the summer displays.
Just needed somethiing until I put the Christmas decor up.
I will be doing some idea stealing from your displays.

How cute!

Yes, yes i do. I'm practically a little Martha. :) I have the leaves turn an array of colors, then I make them fall from the trees, strategically lay them around the yard.
;) occasionally I'll bring that feel indoors when a leaf sticks on the bottom of my shoe. I love this time of year.

Just the pumpkin lights. ;)

I didn't think that many decorations could fit in an outhouse.

I decorate a little for Halloween and for Thanksgiving. I painted a witch that looks like she has run into a light pole and some pumpkins that on one side have faces painted on them, and the other side is just plain pumkins. I have silk fall leaf vines to wrap around the porch posts. Inside I have a fall silk flower arrangement for the table and some small decorations that I painted. We plan on trying to get them out tomorrow.
Boo, your kind of decorating sounds a lot easier...and more fun!

Linda, I saw a similar idea, the silk flowers around porch posts, on a website yesterday. But they used real leaves instead.

I got some of mine taken ... I also do strands of silk leaves over the archways inside, a few scarecrows here and there too, and the kids filled pumpkin bags full of leaves for the roadside.

Nice decorating, everyone! You're inspiring me. I cleared off the junk the kids piled on the dining room table, and now I want to look for a fall runner and placemats, and a centerpiece. My table and chairs are similar to yours, Nat, but my set is maple (looks like yours is oak).

Boo you crack me up.:lol::lol:
Blue I have that same plant stand, found it in a neighbor's trash. I may try to duplicate it.
You guys all have great decorations. Not sure if I'll pull out all my stuff this year I am liking Boo's idea the more I think about it.

I can't do Boo's idea, we don't have enough mature trees in the neighbourhood. I remember when the kids were small, we'd bag a bunch of leaves at my inlaws' to bring back home and spread in the yard so the kids could play in them.

Blue, come up and help yourself. I have lots of leaves to go around. :)
I'm too busy trying to clean up my yard to be bothered with fall decorating. My neighbour, however, is right into it this year. This is the first year all her kids are out of the house so she probably has more time to decorate the outside as the inside is staying clean.

Natalie, I'll send my DH, he goes around bagging up all the leaves he can get for the compost. Bags and bags of them.

When I first moved into my house I went wayyyyyy overboard on the Halloween stuff. I have an attic crammed full. After my DGD moved out and no kids coming to trick-or-treat I gave up. Now I am down to decorating with a cinnamon broom and a $1 scarecrow from Dollar General. BTW I probably won't put up anything for Christmas either.

Blue, come up and help yourself. I have lots of leaves to go around. :)
That was when the kids were small. They've outgrown jumping into leaves so you can keep them. ;) You'll be needing them for your grandkids anyway. :) The few I have here I'll be able to string up and put around the door. Or maybe the window since it's my window that faces the front of the porch.

I started a bit of indoor fall decorating. I need some ribbon or something for the silk arrangement I made. And some sort of centerpiece for the table.

Blue..........did you try and put the arrangement in the middle of the table ??
I hav been enjoying seeing all the decorations...
Blue Belle
October 11th, 2008, 09:10 AM
Yes, my intention was to put it on the table, but it's too high and unsteady there. I rearranged things and put the runner on the buffet instead. The cats thought I put it on the table for them to lie on. I think I'll try snipping the stems of the flowers in the vase to lower them so it won't be so high up. I'll play around with it later after work.

Love the new runner and mats blue.

October 13th, 2008, 09:37 AM
Thanks, Jennie. I put the runner back on the table, it looks better there than on the buffet. I just have to keep sss'ing the cats away from it. I cut down the stems of the arrangement, too, and it looks much better now.
