Unfortunately, I haven't been taking care of my plants as well as I would like because I've been so busy with my job over the past two months. I think there was a period of two to three weeks where I didn't water. Many of my smaller Nepenthes lost most (if not all) of their pitchers but the bigger ones kept the newer ones. It's amazing because at one time several of my Nepenthes were severely dehydrated and drooping wrinkled leaves; but after watering they jumped right back up and looked (almost) as good as new!
Anyways, I hope you enjoy the pictures.
N. alata "boschiana mimic" - last picture before I put this bad boy in the mail.

N. Ali'i - a semi-recent addition within the past couple of months.

N. Kohala - still coloring up since recently opening.

N. Red Dragon - all of these pitchers are camera shy and growing in such a way that it is hard to get a good picture.

N. Splendiana x veitchii - still no tendrils between the leaves and wings.

That's all for now. I've got a few more arriving over the next couple days, and I'll post those after they've grown a while and pitchered under my care.

They may be camera shy but you seem to get them all to say cheese and smile real pretty. Awesome as always. TFS

Beautiful plants and very nice pictures :) I have just posted an album on nepenthes (pictures taken in Borneo) on webshots. I still haven't had the time to identify them correctly, but I have a few books on them.

Wow! Great photos. What a trip. I've always wanted to venture to places were I can see Nepenthes in situ. By the looks of the Nepenthes species in the photos, you were in lowland areas and not to high in elevation. I can identify the following ones for you:
N. ampullaria - 11, 12, 25, 27, 28, 41, 62
N. bicalcarata - 5, 7, 8, 33, 34, 36, 39, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 56
N. gracilis (probably?) - 83
N. rafflesiana - 6 (upper pitcher), 23, 24, 40, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 85 (upper pitcher)
N. reinwardtiana - 9, 10, 29,
N. sumatrana (these look like this species, but I thought N. sumatrana was only native to Indonesia and Sumatra- 14, 15, 16, 79, 80
N. truncata (I think? Didn't think these were native to Borneo... Not postive on these at all) - 17, 67, 71, 72
Hope that helps some. It appears many were in flower! Thanks for sharing those pictures. They are beautiful and I'm sure you had a great time!

Heh. Thanks. If we were to move a little higher up the mountain where there are more hybrids I would not be so good at identifying. Lowlanders I can usually nail.
Thanks again for sharing those pictures. Did you have a guide or were you setting out to see Nepenthes and Orchids, or was it just a adventure waiting to happen?

Most of the pictures have been taken in an wild orchid and nepenthes garden, but some where taken in national parks. There are a few parks where you can easily see a lot of them and you don't even need a guide for that; I went there a few years ago. During our last trip to Borneo, we could not go there because our last son was only 15 months old.

Dear adenium,
Thanks for the response. I hope to one day visit Borneo or Malaysia, in hopes to view some of these plants in situ. For now, I just have to settle on great photo documentation from others.
Thanks again!

Many varieties of pitcher plants grow in my area. However, over the last few years I've seen fewer and fewer plants growing in this area.Oh,that's right,we are in the business of growing condos and shopping centers now.Forget the little mice that don't take much space or the hundreds of beautiful species of plants that get bulldozed under.I'm sorry,I didn't mean to get off subject.Your plants are spectacular!I truly appreciate people who take the time to care for these often misunderstood and overlooked plants.Just as in some species of animals,I'm afraid that in the not so distant future many plants will only live in captivity.Again,I'm sorry.this is a sticky subject with me.Thanks for sharing you beautiful photos.

I am actually a board member for the North America Sarracenia Conservancy (http://www.nasarracenia.org), which is a nonprofit group that is dedicated to maintaining a living record of North American pitcher plants. It truly is sad to see the developments. We work towards trying to legally gather plant material and seed to keep in our decentralized growing program, so that we do not lose the genetic diversity of these plants. We also are concerned with areas that are not necessarily in peril at the moment, but in the event of some regional disaster, we could reintroduce location specific populations back into the wild from the location they were originally collected from.

Wow!I went to the website and took a brief tour.I am impressed!I am not educated in the practical nature of pitcher plants.I only know that the bulldozers of progress are burying a valuable treasure that I have seen and appreciated all my life. Many afternoons were spent slapping mosquitos and exploring my childhood world.I fed more than one bug to a wild pitcher.I showed them to my children, but,I have dispaired of showing them to my grandchildren; It's good to know that there is an organization that is being pro-active in their fight for survival.Maybe, this is something that I can get involved in with the grandkids.Thanks.
