I got a nasty virus while surfing recently. I had to spend $300.00 (got ripped off) to the Geek Squad to work on it. It still had the virus when I got it back. I've spent 2 days working on it myself. It's virus free and my os is reloaded, but I have no sound. Does anyone know anything about audio on the computer? My computer says there isn't any. Duh! Do I have to install a driver? Where do I get it? All help appreciated. Thanks, Connie

Oh Connie :( That's a bummer. I hate it that people are making the internet a place to fear. Can't even surf the net without worrying about what site might be harmful or not. That really hurts new sites from ever being discovered. A couple years ago it happened to me too.

I hope you find a fix. I know nothing about stuff like that.

go into safe mode and then my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager and see if you've got a ghost driver for your sound card running (it's listed in 'display adapters'). if so, delete both and restart the computer (in normal mode).

if it doesn't automatically detect the hardware and ask you about installing drivers, then go back to the device manager and right click on the sound card and select 'update driver'. once it's done, restart the computer.

if you receive an error message during the update or the sound still doesn't work after restarting, go back to the device manager and go to the sound card again and right click on it. this time, go to properties and run the troubleshooter that's on the general tab.

you may have to manually go to the website for the manufacturer of your card and download the driver. try the built-in utility first though.

good luck.

and i'd get my money back from geek squad!!
