Anybody have any ideas how to keep the dang earwigs out of my hummingbird feeder?? They're so gross :-x I spray the hook with cooking spray (wich eliminates the ants) but it doesnt stop the earwigs. I am only putting a small amount of juice in the feeder and changing it daily because every day there are dead earwigs floating in the feeder. EWWWW!!

I don't get them in mine jennie. I found out by accident that the fuzzy jute twine that I have keeps the ants from climbing to mine. My wire broke and until I found another decent piece of wire I stuck it up with the twine. I noticed that the ants didn't like the hairy part of the twine so I put a big jute bow at the top when I replaced the wire and I haven't even had ants since. Maybe try that for the earwigs. Finger's crossed it will work for them too. Sorry that's all I can suggest.

Jinny, Heres 3 solutions for nectar creepy crawleys.
1 Put a button on the hook and put a gob of Vaseline on it.
2 Move your feeder away from Blues bloomers.
3 Drill a hole in a plastic lid and mount it on top of your feeder, with some glue or silicone to seal the hole. Put a drop of dish liquid and water in it :)

Oh... those earwigs are such a pain! I actually don't have my feeders up this year 'cause the hummers were just ignoring them and going for the flowers so I took them down but last year I had the same problem as you. I'll have to try the twine and the dishwater later this season though as I am going to put the feeders back up after all the flowers fade for any stragglers that fly by.
