I made my first batch of goat's milk soap yesterday. Scented it with lavender essential oil....it looks great. I'm taking it out of the molds today and it has to set for another 3 weeks. I can't wait to use it. A local store is already asking me if they can sell some of it. :) That will be cool....she already sells Greg's honey, so we'll have a little spot of our own.
I'll have to get some labels made up....need to brainstorm.

Goats milk ?? .. hmm .. <sniff> .. glad it has lavender in it  Last goat I sniffed was petty smelly :unsure:.
Ofcourse that was in goat head soup back in the old days. I remember grandpa complaining they make the heads to hard these days .. can't get the brains out. :o
Cheers ...

Female goats are not smelly....only males in rutting season smell badly. VERY badly. The unfragranced soaps even smell nice, because one of the primary bases is coconut oil. The milk helps to add a nice moisturizer to the skin. A lot of people take milk baths to get it too. :)
I got it out...looks awesome! I washed my hands with the left overs stuff and it worked nice....my hands are soft too ...I think I'm gonna love this.
I made another batch of unfragranced today.
Thanks Erdine....yes, always busy  Too many things out there to try!!

Mmm, I love the scent of lavender. My Granny always wore lavender perfume and put lavender saches in with her clothes. :)
Your soap sounds wonderful Nat. You'll have to let us know when it's available to buy from you for presents. I know my grand-daughter would love some. :)

Sash, I used a bar today and even not being cured yet, it is really nice. Leaves your hands soft...I'm very impressed with it.
I'm going to take orders for it and have lots of fragrances I can do it in, you'd just have to wait out the 3 weeks for it to be shipped...but it will be as fresh as possible :) It's costly to make, so the fragranced bars are $5.00 a piece....a lot of that is due to the coconut oil and essential oils. Unfragranced bars are $4.00 each. I make them in 4 bar batches. If you're interested in getting some, I'd be happy to make you a batch. My unfragranced bars from this morning look great already. It's cool because I have 2 molds, one with the 4 bars for selling and 1 with 3 bars to keep aside for myself...1 batch makes about 6 bars altogether.
Anyway, pm me if you'd really like to try some. I'll see what I can work on for a price. :)

We sell goat's milk soap bars. The customers all say it makes your skin nice and soft. It's supposed to be good for sensitive skin too. I'm going to have to try some.

Blue you'll love it! I'm happy with it ..used it in the shower, and didn't use any lotion when I got out....I'm happy with it.
If anyone here would like some, I can do $3 per bar ...It's so hard to figure out what's a good price on something .... But of course you all will get as low as possible. :)
I'll have
lavender
jasmine
citronella
pine
unscented
rose petals ...right in the soap, from my old cottage roses.
Just let me know if you'd like a batch made and I'll get it that day and send it along...I'm using the bars right away and it's awesome.

Ooops, sorry, I missed the "If anyone here would like some" part. I thought your post was directed at me. I'll have to see what scents they have. I'm usually okay with pure essential oils, it's the artificial scents I can't take. Even with hand lotion I buy unscented and add a couple of drops of lavender or other essential oil to it.

I'm the same way ...heavy perfumes make me sneeze and my eyes swell up ... not a pretty thing. I hope they have something you can use.

Wow that didn't take you long. I've never known anyone who made soap. I've seen on TV how they made soap in pioneer times. They sure used some caustic materials to make it. Looked like hard work. How much milk does it take to make a batch of soap?

sorry Bernie, I didn't see you post until now ---
All true soaps call for Lye, that is the only caustic material in the soaps I'm making. I wear gloves and eye safety goggles. The soaps have to cure for a week or 2 in order for the lye to mix properly with the ingredients and mesh with them....making it a mild soap. It turns out so nicely. If I get a batch that doesn't seem like the lye mixed well, I don't sell it.
Each batch makes 6-7 bars and calls for 3/4 cup of goats milk. They are small batches, and easy for me to handle one batch at a time. :) It is quite fun to do, especially when you start getting into all the fragrances you love.
