I was just looking at a site for bamboo items and thought I could make trellises, bean teepees, etc out of bamboo myself. At my grandmothers house there is lots of bamboo, most of it gets cut down but I can ask my brother not to cut some of it so I can try to use it.
Do I just cut it down and take the leaves off and do something with it to dry it out or do I make the trellises then. I have no clue at all about what to do with the bamboo so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used to have a completely awesome patch of bamboo and used it constantly to make fences, trellis and plant stakes. Cut it down, trim off branches and let it dry for a couple of weeks, have fun and be creative. I have not planted any bamboo here because the wet ground all year due to our springs and really good loamy soil would create the perfect conditions and it would be out of control way too easily.

Nope, the biggiest thing is not to let it be in contact with the wet ground if you want it to last more than a couple of seasons, I used it to accent my backfence at my last place and after 5 years it was still fine. Remember that if you want to make curves on your projects, use the bamboo right after you cut it when it is still green.
