I'm trying to make my own secret garden so far all I have is a bench and ideas. The thing is it will need to be in pots.Im thinking of going with all decorative concrete pots as I have a lot of terracotta elsewhere and want to really make it a seperate room.also I can then use plants with interesting forms like a dark leaved Cordyline and the tri-coloured Dracaena. These would be usefull when there were no actual flowers.Im going to try a non-invasive jasmine for summer scent, and a dwarf white bouganvillia for long flowering ability.Of couse I will grow the white lilly from the front garden there too where it can finally be admired and a daylillie would a red one clash or could the orange work?Pots of annuals would flesh out rhe "beds" and I think I need to relocated the concrete bird bath or maybe finally buy one of those gorgeous white ones I've seen at craft shows.MMMM help I need ideas.

hi donna~
i think your idea sounds wonderful!!!
i enjoy container gardening for many different reasons, you can meet certain plants' needs better,
and it lets you shape and re-shape (if necessary) the area throughout the season.
adding elements like seating, and statuary, or a water feature can make it into a real sanctuary for you to enjoy.
the plants you mention sound like great choices,
and you could add some tall ones, and maybe some trellis "screens" to define the "walls" of your outdoor room.
i hope you go forward with your plan, i hope to see some lovely photos soon :)

(oh, and wouldn't it be cute to have a bonsai in your secret garden??? ~~that is for pssc~~ sorry, i just couldn't resist :P )

I really think garden design with containers is especially if you have poor soil the best route. I'm kind of looking at what I'm doing in my garden and am willing to plop some pots in pockets.

I've been out of work for months and missed basically the whole summer...even my container roof top garden didn't fair well without water so not I'm leaning towards being the best garden desinger I can supply for the future with less weeds, saw a new power point slide show of an new garden patio off an pool and game room and I felt really good about it'm mine but...even my indoor plants had indoor weeds while I was gone, I do interiorscaping too. It's as soon as the gardeners gone or dies...so does the garden regaurdless. It's a major factor that has my mind in a swirl.

Then I watched a video about the nautural human aging process...crunch. I've been after four days back sticking really sticking my fingers in my ears when I hear welcome back for the hundreth time.....the plants miss you. I got to do it better. Conatiners is where I can have some real fun...almost mindless...so easy to change if it doesn't work out, when the back is stiff.

This is where I'm going to put some Mums for fall color at home.

I love to use pots too! I think it's great to be able to "move" plants from place to place during the season... either to complement colours or just create new atmospheres.
