There are a few of these orchids where I found this one, Its a seaside orchid and as you can see, it flowers when all else is brown and finished.

We have a lot of orchids that look like this one and they cause a lot of confusion in trying to ID them.

That can be tricky. Only ones we have are Common Spotted Orchid and Pyrimid orchids which are pritty cool. Someone I know grows orchids and has a vast collection of them. Some are pritty cool.

Interesting flower spike. We have native orchids around here too, but I'm not so familiar with them.

To tell the truth , I think we have quite a few wild native species here, but it seems of course I'm only familiar with the largest and showiest, being of course of native Yellow Ladyslippers and the Large pink ones, though perhaps there's one other species of Ladyslipper as well, The others are mostly all very small to miniature varieties as far as I know, and easy to overlook , unless you're actually looking for them perhaps. Here's one quite interesting and perhaps not so small species I'd not seen or heard of before, called Calypso bulbosa. A borrowed photo of course!

Hi MrSeedy. We have that one up here and there is a trail named after it, a path in a park where they grow. Here are some of my photos. NORTH AMERICAN FLOWERS (http://dereila.ca/na_nature/NAflower.html)

It still seems to me though regarded as invasive weeds in most instances, some of my favorite local flowers seem to grow more pleasing to my eye even as I get older, though I never thought about those much , when I was young and I guess the "label" weed, made me somewhat prejudiced against many of them , no matter how pretty they are . I'lm seeing lots of the chicory in bloom now and still love it, as well as number of our other common "weeds" and just hope the mowers don't show up soon , as most are in those roadside locations that road crews sometimes mow and remove all the color!
