He is a pretty thing isn't he! He looks kind of like a spider we have around here that we call cat faces. I had about 6 of them on my front porch and the webs were full of flies and mosquitoes. I didn't mind them but it did bother me that none of my friends would visit while they were in residence!

Thanks Clams! So she's a she. I kind of got that feeling. Well, I hope a bird doesn't go off with her. Fat little thing

Thank you everyone, I think she is both creepy & pretty. I was weeding grass out of my flowers when I accidentally went through her web. Didn't notice till she was walking up my arm  Boy, does she have some chompers on her!!!!

Luckily, I don't know first hand what the bite feels like. Maybe she will leave eggs in my garden.

Does that make me wilber?

I'm not going to name her  Every time I name a bug in the garden, it's doomed. It's best we go our seperate ways :( before I jinx her.

Those seem to be one of our largest garden spiders around here, and they used to seem so common , but it seems these days I rarely see one of that type in my garden, and I sort of like them, though as a kid and a little "ignorant", I kept one in a jar for days , and upon plopping the thing into my hand days after catching it and not feeding it the whole time, it promptly sunk it's fangs into my hand. Serves me right I'd guess, so I don't handle spiders much anymore!!! Don't kill them either, thuogh my neighbor would run and get the nearest can of raid to kill every spider in her yard and garden. Seems rather ignorant to me since they're valuable at controlling all those plant eating bugs!!!
