I'm not sure what you can do about the flys, but Why don't you get Sevin and dillute it as directed for your Hollyhocks? I use it all the time. It did a super job on my azalea when the worms hit it. Also I use it on my Blueberrys. It could be Japanese Beetles or even Snails. I would try spraying the area where the flys are attracted to see if that helps. Sorry I don't have any better suggestions.

Sounds like you have the "mulberry" blues!!! I"ve allowed one to grow from a seed some bird dropped in it's droppings in my back yard, just so the birds can feed , but they can be messy!! Talk about understatements!!!

I think that the tree is done fruiting for the year. I went out today and the hay/ grass  was clean and all the flies were gone I was actually able to do some gardening to day . I'm still going to work on solutions for year

 I have two mulberry trees, and they can be awful messy things. The one is pretty close to our fence over yonder, so it`s a good distance away from our home but being that it`s next to the fence that way, it`close to our neighbors steps that lead into her kitchen. We`ve given them permission to cut the branches back when they get too close for comfort sort-a-speak!! It took one time of me seein how the berries stained her steps for me to say, "hey cut the branches back anytime you need to"! -_-

I England it is legal to cut overhanging branches back to the boundary. You're supposed to offer the cut boughs to the owner of the tree, but no-one bothers with that.

Another way to stop it is to make a copper nail and drive it into the tree. Illegal, but effective.

 Oh no let it up to you Rich. A copper nail now is it? Well truth be told it wouldn`t make me mad at them. I`d sure hate that mess too. That`s why we`ve told them to cut it back whenever they need to.
