I didn't take many of my houdeplants outside this summer. My new central air conditioning unti is occupying the shady space they used to go in in summer. But, here are some pix. I will need to take my dracena outside for a bit - it caught a cold in the central air and needs some heat and humidity. Plenty of that around these days!

My Moses in the Bullrushes. This was one tiny thin stick when I got it last fall..

One of the few I fit outside. He likes it there. Wish I lived in warmer climes - I do love tropicals...

transplant - it has tiny little white flowers hiding among the leaves - like Moses in the Bullrushes.. Mine hasn't bloomed yet but I am waiting patiently.

Here's my Norfolk Island Pine. A co-worker was going to throw this away! I rescued him last December...

My peace lily. This strted out as one of thos plants in the top of a fishbowl. Another co-worker's fish died and she threw the plant away. I rescued this one about a year and a half ago.

And finally, my "Plant closet." It was literally a closet but I took the doors off to take advantage of the great south eastern exposure in the room, which is now my dining room. It sure is cheery in January!

transplant - it hasn't grown much but got a lot greener. It was cold from being in her garage.

Is that distilled water that I see there? Do you water them with that.. or is it just a container that I only THINK is that??? :P

Sometimes I use distilled but mostly I fill containers with tap and let it sit a week or so before using. My plants do not like the chemicals!

I guess I"m not the only member , who has a taste for lots of houseplants and tropicals. Nice collection there!! I'm already thinking what else I can "fit" where the huge Fan Palm used to sit in the winter, but that spots a bit to close to a wall furnace and not a great spot for anything, and it's also not close enough to the windows for natural light, so I've had to keep the flourescent light overhead there on all winter , when the palm was there. Don't think I'll need to turn that one on again come winter this year. Between the plant stands and the hanging flourescent fixtures for my houseplants, I'd have five two bulb fixtures going for months and that may be a bit much on the electric bill!! Flourescents are the cheapest light per Watt, but if you have enough of them it still can get expensive nowdays.

Have you seen the purple variety of the Moses in the Bulrushes? People use it as a groundcover here!! <_< I think it's really pretty because it has little pink blooms on it! :D I keep threatening to "facillitate the relocation" of a few pieces!!

Harley: My MIL has those in her yard (SC) and pulls them likes leaves. We only visit in the fall, so I have been unable to snag one and take it home. Hmm - maybe I'll ask her to pot one up for me. Of course, she'd look at me like I'd grown another head!

Mr. Seedy: I am soooooo lucky to have my dining room. It had two full walls of windows, one on the east and one on the south. My plants just love it in there...

I've often thought as well , that one solution to using more of my indoor space would to be to add many more windows , so those darker areas in my house would be suitable for growing more plants. How bout a house with solid glass walls!!! No stones please!!!

 Nice bunch of houseplants. There are a few I`d like to add to my collection, but I have to think of a way to sneak them into the house. Ole eagle eyes says there`s too many now. But hey if I want them I get them!! :P :D

Sneezie: My DH, a retired CPO in the Navy, has - oh maybe - five :D dozen lighthouses, anchors, ships, ships wheels, etc., etc. He says not a word about my plants! That's why we get along so well. :D

Went to the food store at lunch to pick up some crackers and got these - only $4 each!

Don't you just hate those food stores.  I always end up spending more money for plants than the loaf of bread I went in there to buy.

Those look good enough to eat.
