Thanks Boo for the info.

Mine is about 4' tall in a pot looking sickly. Gave it fert, lots of sun. The old leaves are getting yellow but still growing new leaves and no buds. -_- I started mne from a cutting this winter.

August 4th, 2005, 09:22 PM
lol gosh guys I started that reply a few hours ago. Went outside & you all posted. lol

Ok, guys show me how to slaughter this thing for cuttings. The one I am sending to TPS was already rooted & for sale with this one. They both were marked pink so i assume they are from the same plant.

I also know of a few I might be able to get that nobody is buying for 50 cents. A real shame, but I only want to take in one this winter.

August 4th, 2005, 09:23 PM

terese

ROFLMAO and boo it is easier to root woody cuttings than green  they should be at least 6" long. I root mine in a couple of inches of water with just a touch of superthrive

I'm afraid mine isn't going to flower til late again,, since there are no flower buds in sight yet. I'll be happy to see mature blooms by late Sept. at the rate it's growing, though they are looking much healthier now and are looking quite bushy.
I'm having a few bugs problems as well, but it's so strange the "mites" I think the one has , are all on the upper part of the plant and none of the lower branches show qny signs of the mites whatsoever, though the mites have been there in various population levels for months now. The "Safers" that seemed to work well indoors just doesnt' seem to be doing the job now that the plants are outdoors for some reason.

That's luverly. I'll see how my boring white ones do then maybe expand the collection to include some special coloured ones.

August 5th, 2005, 11:52 AM
Oh WOW!!! Great color on those brugs!!! Are you giving it lots of fertilizer boo? Mine seem to bloom at a rate of two per day, I never get a full plant of blooms at one time.

boo
August 5th, 2005, 12:00 PM
I threw in those slow release stuff that gardenlady told me about. Darn, can't think of the name right now. Little balls that are good for 3 -4 months?

MrSeedy
August 5th, 2005, 12:12 PM
I put some osmocote, on mine boo and that's one of the slow release ones, but there are other "specialty" ones for bloom boosting as well, I think?? I did find it liked the Miracle-Gro last year, so I'm using some of that as well, to see if that will help.

maynardmarie
August 5th, 2005, 12:19 PM
I know you folks have been experiencing some pretty high temps, so just a word of caution....If you use osmocote, it can burst in excessive heat and release all fert at once, burning your plants in the process.
Dynamite and nutricote are pelletized time release and cannot burst.....I learned the hard way a few years back :(

Wow, thanks for the heads up. What would be a sign of that? Mine seems fine. Would it turn up its heals & die?

osmocote, thanks MrSeedy..thats it.

maynardmarie
August 5th, 2005, 01:09 PM
Boo if your temps are very high just check and see if the lil yellow pellets are still whole, osmocote is actually a liquid inside a shell. You would be able to see and if they are split/open....dump them and flush the heck out of your baby

This is what i use on my brugs...it is also an insecticide and will really keep them healthy. Just always make sure to either water very well before use or after

Boo,

Your Brug blooms are absolutely gorgeous! And the smell is just how you described!

maynard,

Good to know that I can use the Bayer Rose fert & insecticide on them, I use it on all my Hibiscus. Have noticed something eating the leaves on the Brugs you have given us and wasn't sure if the insecticide would harm these beauties. Thanks for the tip on the Osmocote, I haven't use it in years but have noticed the Miracle potting mix I use has those clear little balls in it. Not sure if it is Osmocote and it only has very small amounts in the mix so I don't think it will cause any damage in this heat.
