Hey, now that's it's been 6 months since I prunned....getting smaller leaves on my too little Ficus and variegated ficus which I have wired to wheep.. What do I do now..cut the larger leaves off..pot on for a while to get a larger trunk? Not sure..but have to time to think about it first. Thanks.

It was nice to see what was before the hard prunning...wow..Look like too little should be left, no large leaves. I should put it in a bigger pot and keep the roots small....I found the weirdest thing to a Coleus...it was a persons and I helped her repot it..never could understand how it was left in such a small 2 quart pot for so long and look so good...it had 3 slugs that lived off it's roots...totally girdled it..so how ever long. I need to GE a bonsai slug.

Is it the one on the left? I would just pot it on to a bigger pot and let it grow for a few years. You have the basic shape but,and forgive me if i'm wrong, the branches appear to be growing upright. Either that or it has 2 main stems. And if that's the case one offer to go,preferably the thicker one so you get a nice taper. Twin trunks only work in bonsai if the second branch appears from very low down, near the soil. Bear in mind i'm viewing this on my phone and the pics are small!

Really thanks..I took cuttings and they have all rooted. I'l post a picture and please pick one out when not on your phone...I over prunned thinking and to say I didn't really think it was in the way of the shape about brancing after it leafed out more. I wasn't thinking of a leader but branching wider. I will pot then so they can grow..just wanted to give them a taste of the tamer...or is the trainer?

Right yellow, Im on the PC now, and this is what i would do with that ficus on the left.
I have rotated the image as this shows it more upright.
I would rermove the branch on the right as there is a conflict with twin leaders, never good in bonsai.
Also by removing the thicker on you get better taper, which gives an instant impression of age.

Basically you just want to prune it to shape then let it grow in a good size pot.
The roots can be minimized at a later date-if you keep it in a bonsai pot now it will never grow.

I will certainly take your advice...after not worried about a little slit..notice what do you call those little figures of a man in the pots...he lost his head. I think if I try and glue it back..might put it in his hand...because I think there was something there too once. I plan on shaping it up and potting it on today. Thanks o'wise one.

I did it..wasn't so bad...to AFI..had moss and glues the head. I hope you approve. You know you put that cut section in an aloe dragon pot. LOL

Looks better but its arrangement ion the pot is wrong for an upright, the top is leaning away.
You need to tilt the plant over to the left so that the leader is pointing upwards if you know what I mean.
See what I mean? The green line will be the soil line in the pot.

I thought it was too large at first...and there was still some soil left in the bottom of the original pot...so I'll look I must have something better. I planted the way it was growing..I'll tilt it. Thanks.

Could use more of a tilt huh? and I'll let it grow towards the sun for awhile...best I could find, no square conatiners. It came from a round.

that'l be fine, now just let it grow like crazy and let those top branches develop before any more training.
looks like you could use some better cuttters, the cut should be flush to the stem to help with healing.
I wouldnt mess too much with it now tho, let it settle and dont feed it yet!

Hi Debbie, I've been trying to get some information on the culture of Bonsai, when I went to your Fotki photos. Very interesting, especially the Scarecrow and Fire hydrant. I realy liked the arrangements you put together. Very nice property. Fotki, in my opinion, and Photobucket are the two best of the photo barns.
I was going to leave a comment, but your's is not set up. If you would like to see my Fotki, here's the link, my guest book is active, but somewhat empty.

Very nice collection. I see maybe you would have a need to start growing some things that could take up less space...It was also nice to see some pictures of Belize...my son just came home from a vaction there and haven't seen his pictures yet..I had a feeling it wasn't FLA. My Fotki is a mess. I'm going to work on it and make it more colorful.
