Hi, I am new and interested in growing scented mints and herbs. What are some good herbs and mints you recommend ? What herbs are good for cooking? Do you have any recipes ? Can you send me a bit of many different herbs and mints that I can try out? Specifically, I?m interested in:
All/diff. Types of peppermints.
All Mints
chamomile
Bergamot (pink)
Anise Hyssop
Rosemary
Ichiban Eggplant
Stevia
*anything scented, tasty, or your favorites
Please email me if you want to see my trade list...
BTW is it possible to make your own lip balm ? I personally love Burts Bees and am interested in trying to make my own body products with herbs and mints. Does anyone know about that ?

I will try to not to ramble on, but, you opened up a favorite subject for me. Lemon balm, aromatic as well as medicinal. You can crush a few handfulls of fresh lemon balm and throw in a hot tub along with rosemary, sage and parsley and have a wonderfully fragrant bath that will relax you in both mind and body as well as ease aches and pains. You could also add lavender couldn't hurt! Pineapple mint goes well with peppermint or spearmint to make a great tea. Pineapple sage smells wonderful but, also tastes great on pork, chicken or even fish. Fennel works with pork or fish and is good in many italian dishes. I think that german thyme is the best cooking thyme, but if I'm doing fish I might use lemon thyme. I prefer either spicey or geneveve basil for most dishes, but, thai basil has a nice flavor of it's own. Oh, we mustn't forget oregano, I love greek but, cuban is so potent that you only have to use a little and is probably one of the most beautiful especially the varigated. Rosemary, well what need we say about rosemary? It used to be included in posies when you wanted to be remembered. Of course no herb garden is complete without sage. I use just the old common type or what I call common sage for cooking. It's said to improve the memory, and if I could remember that I might drink a cup of sage tea every morning! Stevia is a wonderful sweetner, although I'm using the trial and error method on it's usage. Let me get some idea of where I'm going to end up,(I'm trying to move) I'll let you know. I should be able to get you some cuttings at some point, or maybe some seeds. Although probably it'll be cuttings. Hope I was of some help, and didn't lose you as I wandered.

You want to grow these things in containers as they will overrun any garden and getting them out would be a job you wouldn't want to to.
I'm still finding lemon balm 24 years after my first attempt at irradicating the stuff.

Lemon, Balm, it comes back? Wow...We had in our garden, I tried to have it inside, in my bedroom, in a pot when my mother dug it up and began ploughing through the entire yard...(did not work, remarkably enough  ) I s? hope it comes back! I love the stuff! What can I do with it apart from runinng my hand at least three times a day over the leaves before smelling it all the time? I can dig it up and have it in a pot outside by my other herbs?
stateofnewyork54: I hope you do not mind that I am asking these questions for my own purposes in your thread...

I also keep my lemon balm contained in pots so that it doesn't spread into everything else.... and as a side note if you rub a leaf between your fingers and then straighten out your mustache (or just rub your upper lip girls) you can carry it with you for a while ;)

I put my herb garden in the front yard so my lemon balm couldn't get out of control. It can only grow so far now. Connie
