this glasshouse was a gift my dh designed and built for me.

it's 12' x 12' and made of tempered glass recycled from old sliding glass doors -
he found a source and bought each of the panels for $5 (17 panels)

it's the best gift anyone ever gave me

  your man is a keeper

Mine brings me rocks that he finds at the job site, which would be kind of weird except that I collect them.

Those are orchids? Kudos to you for being able to grow them. Mine had a tragic ending. Oh boy that greenhouse is stuffed with goodies! :D

I love your greenhouse. Dh built mine out or recycled windows. It is a lean-to style and, as the windows were all 5 feet tall the outside edge is 5 1/2 feet tall. That's fine with me- I'm only 5' 1" :P I love your free standing one. It almost looks like a gazebo. Do you have to provide extra heat in the winter?

That's a wonderful greenhouse and great orchids. I wish I were better at growing the orchids , but I've not tried many. I had a Epidendrum for years, but the first moth orchid had bad roots when I bought it and never recovered after the root pruning and repotting. It only had one decent root left after I removed all the rotten ones and that just wasn't enough I'd guess for it to get going again.

thanks to you all for so many nice compliments!! on the greenhouse and dh

yeah, he's definitely a keeper - even after all these years, i can't help myself, i like that boy!! ;)

mla2 - i love the idea of the recycled windows!!!
we heat in wintertime with one of those oil-filled radiators - you know the ones?

maynardmarie - as you can see, dh fixed it "all better" after hurricane charley dropped the hickory tree on it.
luckily the tree came to rest with most of it's weight on the corner post,
and only some replacement glass was necessary, whew!
still picking tempered glass crumbs out of orchid pots.

lmao boo - some of my other favorite gifts are rocks (and, like you, i ain't talkin' jewelry, honey),
100 yr old handmade bricks (from his family's farm) and rusted scrap iron - to weld into "yard art". crazy, huh???

p.s.
i learned this secret to orchid success from my great aunt years ago -
she was an orchid maven in so. fla. - office holder in the nat'l orch. society. . .you get the picture?
anyhow, after she passed, it fell to my mom and me to do the necessary cleaning and clearing up of her home.
somber business, until, in the potting shed, we found hundreds of used orchid pots -
we laughed 'till we cried - dear auntie was a fraud, like the rest of us!!
so, the secret is this - if it dies, hide the corpse and get another one!!

 ;) ;) ;)

Way to recycle. I'm a big fan of recycling. Great greenhouse! And those bloomers look good as well. Could I borrow your DH to build me a greenhouse?   Buster
