would a venus fly trap be ok growing outside all year long in zone 5?

No, but several people on here are able to keep them indoors.

if you had them into a tank full of water thats what I did throughout the winter and they grow just huge plenty of water and humidity they can grow anywhere mate.

It would do fine outside as long as you took some necessary precautions like bringing into a cold garage or attic for the winter dormancy period. Or, if you are planting it in the ground then you can mulch it. I know of people in Canada that grow vft outside year round so it is definitely possible in Zone 5. I live in KC, MO and if I was able to grow my vft outside I would without a thinking twice about it!
They really don't need a lot of humidity and can easily adjust to lower levels. The most important aspect of growing fly traps is light. Full sun is definitely the best light you can give it, but they can be grown under artificial lights, although they might not get as good of color and size as outside.

Guess alot has to do with what part of Zone 5 your in and if you are dedicated to go through all the work thats involved with doing so! * interesting xvart *
