View Full Version : Mystery Bush / Flowers

Hi BS'ers,

Can anyone tell me what type of bush and flowers these are in this picture? This bush is growing in my next door neighbors yard, and they have recently purchased the house, and don't know what it is as the previous owner planted it. They are huge flowers - easily 7 or 8 inches across. Each flower only lasts a day (similar to day lillies), and then new ones bloom the next day.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Could it be a type of hibiscus?

lady s,
i have the same impression as mary, and one-day flower longevity is a common trait in hibiscus - so that kinda fits.
i live in n.c. and there are a number of hibiscus varieties that are hardy here - it all depends on where you are.

 incidentally, if it is hibiscus, they start very nicely from cuttings -
i'm not suggesting anything nefarious, you understand, i'm just sayin' (hehehe)

yep I would say either hibiscus or a really small rose of sharon although mine looks more tree like but they are related to hibiscus and the flowers look very similar

It's a hardy hibiscus. I have one just like it but its not that big yet. That's a real beautiful plant. You could take a lot of cuttings.

harley, my friend, you cut me to the very quick (crocodile tears flowing),
to imply that i, the soul of innocence (eyes darting, twirling handlebar mustache between fingertips),
would tempt sweet little pig-tailed t-shock into a sordid life of crime - heaven forbid!!! (back of wrist held up to forehead)
really, i would never do such a thing. (hand clutched to breast)
why, that would just be . . . wrong!!(??)

(gotta do something 'bout this mustache - most unbecoming on a lady)

Hi Harley... I've been way too busy these days. Work has been huge, and the art project has been keeping me busy. Hope you are doing well.

I miss this group. It's nice to be able to pop back in for a spell.
