I left the Elephant Ears bulb in the ground over winter, It's looking like it's hardy here. Although it's a bit small.
The lobelia cardinalis made it through the winter too, it can be a bit hit and miss.

That area of your pond looks great Rich! I have a couple of the lobelias around my little mini pond, but they're in pots, and are just starting to open like yours. I read that they are a native wildflower here where I live, but never was able to winter them over either. I'm really surprised it doesn't make it for you being that your winters are much milder than ours. I wonder what's the secret?

That looks so relaxing by the pond. I have enough extra EEs this year I am going to put one in the ground next to the house as a test. I have seen some survive around my neighborhood. I will only risk the green one. :D
What is the name of the fern in the back? It is really tall.

I don't know what the fern is, it was in the garden when I moved it 24 years ago, I've divided it quite a few times.

I have been buying every Tall fern they say is hardy for my zone. I have not had one get as tall as they say. Some I have had 5 years I think they would be the height as stated.
I am looking for 5'. I have got some at 4' almost.

your pond looks great Rich. I have yet to keep a lobleia cardinalis alive over a winter here, although it's supposed to be hardy for here. nice one. and we have to bring our EE's in for the winter too.

Being aware that EE is a bit frost sensative I buried the bulb quite deep. About 8 inches.
